I've been researching and learning about rollers. What are some good characteristic of a balanced roller? How do you determine which one you want to breed and which one to keep in the flying kit?

One thing we can't fly the birds all year or they will get eating. You need to lock them up so you have them for next year to fly.
A balance roller will show is balance when he rolls. You can't see them on the ground. Here is a example of a balance and not balance.

Which one I want to breed and fly.
I pick the best bird in the kit that I think will help me in my loft and I breed it. It has to be a hard worker, roll clean and out of the roll, regroup after the break fast, No less than a H type roller have speed. No less than a 15 footer. And has to be better than another bird in my stock loft that it will replace. Usually stock 1-2 a year no more.
I fly the rest.

You don't have to see them roll to know if they are balanced or not. But, a balanced roller will give you that ball bearing smooth spin. Wing position is importantant, but it has little to do with a roller being balanced or not balanced. ---------- Just My Take On Things

I always pick a balance bird out of the air then I put them in the show cage and compare them againts the others who I pick as well. To choose the best one that will be balance to the other bird that I will pair up with. That is the only ground balance I do.
