I had a Boxer that would gulp whole baby chicks down like that, and I was disgusted, even though I know it's nature. When he started killing baby kittens and then the sweetest cat I'd ever met (and I'm not even a cat person), I went to get my gun, but a friend took him off my hands before I sent him to Doggy heaven.
