Sometimes, you have great rollers that don't know how to raise their babies and you have poor rollers that are good at raising their babies. I would try fostering the eggs to a succussful pair if you really want to see the outcome of the babies from the pairs that are not successful at raising their babies.
I use my rolldowns for fostering too and the funny part is they are really successful at fostering. ---------- FLO www.blacked-out-loft.webs.com SAKTOWN, KALI4NIA

I had a pair that did the same thing on mixed feed. I switched to pellets and the squabs are now great and the same size. I believe that the parents would pick the best feed and the biggest chick got that. The other chick ended up getting less quality feed being second. They were on free feed but would eat the peas, safflower and stuff before the milo. Just my thoughts ---------- RT Williams

I agree with RT Williams, switch breeders to pellets. you will see the difference in just two days.. my buddy noticed this first hand just last month, he had two hens in the cocks break up cage and used those pairs as fosters, well the young that were raised by the fosters started walking later, and some times had displaced hips, (nothing to do with lack of nest matl.)he showed me and that forafied the reason to feed pallets.
