When looking for breeding pairs to purchase. What do you look for as far as performance goes?? Do you look at the breeding pair itself fly? Or do you look at some of its offsprings fly??

I only have 6 young birds at the moment and really would like to get more birds asap! I kinda hate waiting lol....

If you are picking a pair of Proven Breeders...you want to see the young fly or have a track record of diffent seasons of young flying. You also want to know how they did on different mates. After you see the young...you want to see if the Breeders have the "type" that you like and if they are passing it on to the young.

Getting a good pair of Breeders is really hard to do...you get lucky when a breeder is moving forward and maybe getting rid of some older pairs.

Well that is about it...but NEVER take the breeders word unless you know them to be honest and you have seen the birds fly.

Even after you have seen younger birds fly couldn't the owner be bull****ing about whom the young birds belong too??

For instance they could have a terrible pair of breeders claiming the babys are certain birds when they are not...

The Game, I would say you start looking at the top flyers in your area.

Hey Game, I notice you said you dont want to wait,... you want the birds now. I feel ya man. I`ve been there. I been doing this for several years now and I`m still not where I want to be. But I`m getting there ! Basically, this aint an overnight success type thing. It takes time. And patience. You`ll be glad in a couple years if you spend some time and really get want you want. If you`re real serious about getting birds right now, theres lots of people who`ll be glad to help ya out of some spare weight in your pockets. Remember,... patience is a virtue. that also applies to raising roller pigeons...LOL
Good luck Mr. Game

Hi Game,
Paul and Sal also gave excellent advise. Find some fliers and breeders in your area and spend some time with them. Observe their birds and see if you can nail down some priorities you want in a line of birds. Make your decision based on some time spent with several different lines of birds.

If you absolutely cant take it and have to get birds right now talk to Tony on this site. Many guys here have his birds and sound very pleased with them. I`m also pretty sure I know who J-Star is talking about in N.C. and he also has a very good reputation. BUT, they are 2 very different lines of birds with different qualities. So you`re back to square 1, what is it you really want in a family of birds?
