I've read of guys posting about their birds ruffing up their chest feathers while super hard spinning. I have not found this to hold true over here. Here is a photo I took of a nice 20 footer 'H' styled Black w/f hen that is on par with just above average in velocity. She would rip her chest feathers every time up. She's by far from being in the hyper velocity department yet still screws up her chest every time. Some how, I am having a very hard time to believe that a bird must possess super to ultimate velocity to do this.

(a side note) The blue Check in back is higher - more deeper, at least times folds so spinner, yet nothing on chest. When rolling, you can actually hear wing beats... what I call mini sonic booms.

Just rambling,

Thor

Here is a slow motion clip of her in action. She starts rolling during 0:06 - 0:13 (the black w/f on the far left)

Gabe,

Nice bird! From the photo, I'd say it is a young bird. Are you sure it wasn't crossed on to a chinese owl (grin). Just poking some fun. Really, that is one good looking bird. If it is a young bird, I find that young birds that just came in can really rip it. They rarely will possess that velocity again later down their career. Do you find this to hold true over there? The fastest and deepest rolls I've ever seen were given off by young birds coming into the roll.

My bird on the other hand looks like crap all the time. She has very poor feather quality and I would rate her as a soft feathered bird. She is very smooth in her roll and can buzz it up just fine when she really let's it go. She is plain out ugly in looks but rolls very clean and smooth. I've been flying her for over 2 years now and you would think she would get better in the velocity department. Nope, still very consistent. I don't know if that is a good thing or bad?

Like I mentioned, probably just over here...
