I lost my holdover kit from last year. Birds that you have that are not born this year.

I have two kits this year and if I lock them up to fly next year I will have two holdover kits for 2009.

THESE are the birds that arent quite good enough for the A TEAM --YET-- but are decent enough to replace birds in the A TEAM if sometime goes wrong...

I've heard racing bird guys call birds that were late in the season hatched and not flown that season "Holdover birds".

Correct me if I am wrong here but I'd all ways called Yearlings - Hold Overs. A Hold over team is a team consisting of all last year's birds.

Here is the run down:
2008 = Young bird
2007 = Yearlings/Hold over
2006, 2005, 2004, etc = Old bird

Maybe that is just me,
Thor

Hold over birds are birds that are held over from previous years...they can be A-team or B-team birds...They are usually birds that dont make the stock loft but are strong team birds...so all the birds in my A team for previous years are hold over birds......usually it is just a handfull of birds that made the cull cut .....

I have two 25 bird teams. Both composed of yb`s except for 5 old birds in the yb team. They are seperated chronologically. I call the oldest one the young bird team. I call the youngest one the squeaker kit. I will call them "The squeaker kit" til next year when I get another kit of squeakers up. Confuses my friends when I talk about the squeaker kit in December. lol

After the World Cup,I will cull one team or 25 birds.The remaining birds will the be "the kit". Hatch 50 and cull down to 50 total by September.I am not averse to sending my remaining team down the road as fast as an early landing outbird,did it this year after a succession of foibles.
I will do this in hopes of eventually having the team I visualise when I close my eyes and see a "real" break. Each bird tucked up and spinning with proper style and velocity. Funny thing is I never see anything but the birds. No trophies,500 dollar breeder pairs,or trips around the world,just birds.
