I built some breeder pens that are 3ft long x 21 inches wide x 2 ft high.. I put the breeders in there about 3-4 days ago and they are showing no sign of wanting to breed? What am I doing wrong? I put a nest bowl in each and food and water..
---------- Thanks, Andrew

Try taking the hen away leave him alone for a few hours and put back in see if that tickles his fruits if not put a wire divider between both sexes and after a while he would want to get on her ,If that don't work put a little t.v. plays some hot movies that ought to arouse something .seriously though make sure that it is a hen and a cock . ---------- Ralph

Andrew, I've had that problem at times. Ralph's idea is a good one. I usually put them in two wire cages side by side where they can see but not get to each other until they act more interested. Alan Dewey, our Colorado Regional Director taught me that trick to speed the process up. In your case, Ralph's idea of a dividing wall should work. Fasten a temporary wire wall between them in the middle of the breeding box so they can see each other.

How old are the birds? If they are at a good age they should not have any problem. And yes make sure you have one cock and one hen.
If you don't know make sure you put one cock that you already know is one and put him inside with both of them and see the resutls.

Sup Kopesta, I would do what Ralph said. I usually have no trouble mating up a pair if the cock and hen have not seen one another for awhile.

kopetsa.... if your birds are in the Moult or starting to moult, forget about breeding them. It's too much stress on their system. ---------- Fly High and Roll On

You have a good point there Newflyer if the birds have already been working hard raising young before and up until the moult, but I've found that a pair that have not been breeding during the natural breeding season(Let's say february till July) because of being in the kit or whatever reason,if they are well fed up and fat and in good shape they can handle starting to breed now and through the winter even if you have lights on to make up a 12 hour day. They DO need a certain amount of daylight hours(artificial light works)to be able to eat enough to feed the youngsters. ---------- Kel.
