I have heard that someone question a historical article I wrote regarding NBRC-68-1220. Well, I bet this individual $10,000 that 1220 was not originally purchased by Bob Scott and that the bird first went to Gary Severe. If he wants to take the challenge I will have my lawyer draw up the paperwork.

BA - I already knew the answer 30 years ago but I wanted to make a point to some of the comments made that are totally inaccurate.

Spanky - quisiera saber si él quiere apostar?

EMDOG - If you were not around rollers in the late 60's and 70's you probably would not know what we are talking about but Gary Severe had some wonderful pigeons from Bill Pensom and was a friend of the Pensom's as well. Gary is a great individual and purchased one of the pigeons that has influenced many Southern California lofts and that was NBRC-68-1220. This bird was a youngster in Bill Pensom's kit at he time of his death. Gary purchased that entire team.

Hey Doc,

Are you still working on that book? I get three copies when you publish, don't forget.

Your historical knowledge is just fenominal, my friend.

Nick - I am going tell you a story that all of my friends know. Sam Guitterez and others will tell you that I have always been a historian (Even though I teach stats and qualitative and quantitative research). I have always been honest and tried to give facts without the BS. I was calling myself the Pensom historian way back then and I love sharing my information. The book is coming but my friend and I (who also knew the old timers)are trying to do this right and not just throw some crap together. Scott, Nick, Chrystal Palace, Paul Gomez, Glenn and Kenny I would like to do a write up on you guys so could you contact me at ldoucet@spfldcol.edu

LaRon, here was what Gary said.

It is not worth arguing over. I bought Bill's young bird kit of 20 birds. I have no records and do not remember all the numbers. Several of them became very famous I hear. They were all 1200 series 1968. I gave birds out of that kit over the next 3 years to Elden McDowell, Bob Scott and others. Elden's birds went to Frank Lavin. Frank would be the best one to ask. He reminded me at San Bernardino of several of those birds becoming famous on paper. I was not at any auction and until now did not know one happened. I did go to Bill's funeral and went home from the service. I found out later that several guys were waiting at his home when the family got there. Ralph Hilton and family members ran them off. I did buy 2 of the green lofts and the kit a few days later after I was invited there by Ralph and Howard McCully. Sorry I can't say for certain if 1220 was one of them. Frank was a big fan of those birds and kept tract of them. 1220 or 1233 was the one I had the greatest success with. Almost 40 years ago and I never was I pedigree junkie nor a historian. I stopped paying attention to the roller hobby because of all the garbage that was being said about Bill Pensom that just were not true. I was at a show in Little Rock and almost decked a old fart from Rosebud who said some very ugly lies about Bill.

BA - Thanks a million! Gary copied me on this e-mail. Also, I have all of the evidence of exactly when Bob Scott started breeding this pigeon to the year and wanted to prove a point.
Dude, we could have shared the profits :) I hope all is well!
