It doesn't really matter. As long as they are proven to produce excellent birds then they are good to go. I've breed brother to sister, father to daughter, and son to mother, and I've got some success in it. ---------- W.Cha

Sure it's OK... In fact it is done all the time. It is common practice. You want to get the good genes in as small a circle as possible. Whole strains are made using only two or three birds. Paul G

In order to be succussful at breeding that close you have to be able to spot the degenerate traits. If you breed the best to the best it should be all right. The faults sometimes mask themselves and are hard to spot. I have done it and sometimes get weak feather untill the first molt then you cant tell, but I make a note will not breed that pigeon no matter how good it is in the air.I would try to isolate the parent that had the trait by breeding to another sibling. The degenerate trates could be anything that detracts from the qualities that you want to perpetuate in your birds. There are also links that may associate themselves with performance. If you breed enough off the same pair you should be able to link up the the good traits and spot the undesirable ones. When they the best to the best they really mean it. It will expose all of the faults in your birds, nonkitters, rolldowns, highflyers, ect. It will let you know what you are working with. ---------- They gotta Spin to win.....Jay

Jay Thank you for pointing that out The closest i will go is halfs brother and sis or Grand parents to grand Children not saying it wont or does'nt work. but in my breeding and flying results over the years it tend to throw birds that are all over the board. because remember if you double the good you also double the bad And your percentage will be crazy could all good and a few generation they show.
Performance based Only as I experience it over the years with my family of pigeons

Max, I like the way you put the last part,we can learn a lot by our mistakes only as it pertains to our birds. Line breeding or inbreeding will expose the faults in the family line. By closely breeding the birds that show the traits that we want we will intensify them. If you are careful you can purge them or bury them pretty deep. There are some good articles in the reading room on the subject. ---------- They gotta Spin to win.....Jay
