Ok i have a question for many of you guys who has been in the hobby for the longest. Besides the BOP's taken away your birds, i am sure there are those banded squekers that tends to get sick and dies all of a sudden. and there are those kits that a sigle disease destroys the whole kit. then there are just birds that dies from other illness. All of the birds (assuming it has your personal name, number, and address) has bands on them.
When you dispose them, how do you do it? just bag it up and throw it in the dumpster? burry them? Do you ever wonder if the dumpster company may just one day see too many dead pigeons and it so happens to have your band on it, would you be worrying the FEDS might wonder why people is throwing dead pigeons away? what if they were skepticle of bird disease or whatever?
Just would like to know if anyone has encounter any problems or would it even matter?
I have been throwing a few away but my bands are just IPB's until now I just started thinking about it.

I don't think the FEDS are even concerned with pigeon welfare. They have been schooled to believe pigeons are vermin like rats and thier behavior or demeanor with pigeon people has been hostile at best. They consider us to be slaughters of birds of prey and birds of prey are held in high esteem.
Many breeders remove the bands from all thier dead. I do not. The only ones who will know where they come from are those gentlemen who pick the trash up. I don't think any of them have the time or energy to sort thru the trash in bags. When it is put into the truck I don't think anyone cares who had all the sick and dead pigeons. Burying them would be a lot of unnecessary hard work and you may have a soil contamination thing going on.
They break down real quick in the refuge dumps and land fills with the only thing left would be the bands. ---------- Just My Take On Things

I always cut my bands off. Not that I worry about someone finding it but just because I want the band to know what happened to each bird. I feed my dead birds to the hogs. They love squab. They also get all the bad eggs and eggs I dont want to hatch. Of course I dont live in town as you may have guessed by now.

Here you're not supposed to put animal carcasses in the trash but if it is bagged up in a tight small bag, that keeps the blowflies out till garbage day so you don't have them little cream coloured squirmies flowing out of the garbage can.The garbage man will never notice if you take that precaution. ---------- Kel. I think this is a really good topic. Just to play it safe and not do something that might further make roller breeders look bad, I suggest a call your local city hall or appropriate city department and ask them what the appropriate method would be to dispose of a small animal carcass.
If any one does make a call, please share with us what they say. Thanks. ---------- FLY ON! Tony Chavarria
