I know for sure that breeders need grits on the side 24/7.

What about young flyers/ daily flyers?
how often do you give them grits (if any)?
what are the pros and cons of feeding grits to the flyers along with their daily combinations of flying nutrition source (considering I feed them half wheat and half milo)?

Grit contains minerals that are essential. Birds get much of those minerals from the feed. Some pellets are fortified with these minerals. If you are feeding these pellets then I would not worry about presenting grit to them. Some fliers present these minerals in feed or water additives. If you don't feed these fortified pellets and you do not add them to thier feed or water I would recommend throwing them a handful now and then either in thier feed tray or just upon top of the kit box. Your breeders require it more often if not 24/7 for the development of eggs plus they feed it to the squabs and helps in thier development.

right on Nick ! I give a light handfull to the kitbirds every couple weeks. Breeders get a feeder full every week, but they do not have it in front of them 24/7. I figure they tend to gorge on it whenever it is refilled so daily refilling shouldn`t be necessary. (Just my thought). I use the red grit with anice scent and has lots of vitimins and minerals including iodine. Oh ya, I also add a small bag of oyster shell to the grit and mix it up, but honestly, they tend to pick around the oystershell and then eat it last:)

If you are feeding a seed diet the birds need the grit to make maximum use of the feed. The gizzard uses grit to grind the feed before it passes on into the stomach. The better it is ground up the more the bird can absorb. Once a week or so is enough since the gizzard retains the grit until it is used up. And as mentioned when feeding pellets grit isnt totally necessary.
