I found the late hatches I had from last year did just fine after winter lockdown and they had not started to roll before lockdown.I think that if they are kitting well before lockdown, they'll be allright and come into the roll when you can fly them steady again..Better to lock down now than keep flying against the SOB BOPs and have nothing to fly early next season.

Mario, if you have a sound family you should be just fine to lock them up, if you are not sure I would alternate the flying times and or days.. Good luck.

the BOPs are not a huge factor for me either. But I still lock down the best. Those that are not rolling at all, I continue to fly. If a bird developes into a real prospect to be a great roller over the winter I will then pull it and lock it down also till spring.

those birds will come in eventualy its in their genes to roll so it will never be forgotten.one time i bred a 05 nbrc red mottle for two years with a two month break in between then stocked it up then started flying it again and he was rusty and overweight but in about a month he became the flyer he once was but now i stocked him up again because i only have one flying cage and its for all my up coming youngsters.

Moving to Arizona won't help one little bit...had a BOP sitting on the breeder's loft this morning. Freaked those birds out and then tried to get into the kit box. We fly different kits at different times of the day to keep the BOP guessing. Don't fly just before or just after a storm. The BOP is out hunting at those times for sure.

Why i told him to to arizona is because I haven't gotten hit sense March 14th and it's already September thank god. The reason why I told him to move Arizona is because those guys out in California they have them all year long...

Mario, Flying in the evenings will have it's rewards. As most of the guys said you don't want to get them honed in on you as they are now. Lock down for a few days then fly em' 5 at a time to test the air. If those get hit lock down longer and repeat again. When you find clear skys gradually add up to the 15 until your usual lockdown time. Control them-don't let them control you! Best of Luck, Otis

Ralph it was a young coopers I think. He wasnt very good at his job. He did manage to kill a homer but just left him on the ground dead. My last Fireball came in this morning so all I lost was one homer. I flew five kits of Orientals for two straight days and havent even seen a hawk feather.

Smart choice Mark ,I haven't seen a Falcon since Dec, in Oct they usually start coming out around here so i just grab 2 pairs of birds that and lock them away these are the one's that been true since last Oct.won't take a chance with losing these .The Hawk is here all the time but he is slow in catching my birds I just fly around him so that the birds can fly with ease and not worry about BOP chasing them all the time..very important point Kel mention and thats if the birds are doing well in kitting they will be fine if lock down..

A pair Coops hit a month early today, killing 3 or 4 and did not even eat them, just took them down and killed them and then went for more leaving the un eaten caucuses. six are still missing boy what a short fly year we had, we did not get into the air until late May early June .due to BOP so we never get to fly them out, the few we locked down last year that survived were in lock down from Oct to may/June, we did try to fly once a month testing the water, but loss almost all of last years birds, the bummer is that last years birds from lock down were just starting back into the roll and this years were kicking few 5 ft rolls just starting to come on and that’s that. its over. Not much fun any more, I love my rollers but this is getting hope-less
I feel your pain Pacos Bill

My advice to you all is, this time of year don’t feed your birds for performance flying, rather for exercise flying and molt fighting. They need to be strong on the wing to out maneuver a hawk or a falcon. Once POB are discouraged the first and second time, they will go somewhere else. If you have a problem with a falcon, then don’t fly a kit of 20 or more. Cut your kit by half and fly each separately.

Totally agree with that Jay.Even fly only 5 at a time for the preservation mode.
