Yep, B-Team!
Thought the N. front was bout over and the sun even popped out. Thought I would let the B-team get some exercise. They went up and they were on fire. Thought the nice breeze was just what they needed. All of a sudden, here come the wind again and they got farther and farther. Right before dark, they came within a block of the house flying low and hard. They hit a big break and off they went again.
Sure hope to get a few of them back tommorrow, they were gonna be better than the A-team. Mostly Urbans and Rubies!
Made a bad management decision tonight. Should of taken time to watch the weather forcast. Makes me sick to watch my Spring WC team disappear!

I don't know where you live, but we have a lot of wind here in the spring and fall. It went from 20 mph gust to 40 or 45 gust in just minutes this evening. Didn't take long to see they were in trouble. I just put my head down,I couldn't stand to watch them blow away!
It was gonna be a good kit, I could put my thumb up and cover up the whole kit most anytime! They were very active and worked well together.
I gave up my weightlifting program this summer to focus on my birds. Spent a lot of time with them. I will be thankful to just see a few of them come back tommorrow.
I gave away about half my A-team last week so a friend of mine could have enough birds to compete in the FF! I have been putting off moving some of them up to fill the perches. They just worked worked well together and I hated breaking them up. I was gonna do it this weekend.
I'm gonna bend over now so you guys can kick me right square in the arse!LOL
Mangement, management, mangement!!!!

So sorry to hear of your loss, Val. Yesterday, the breeze was unremarkable, but as soon as I turned the kit out, the wind picked up, and I wondered about what you are describing here. I watched the birds fly toward the pigeon house and literally be suspended in place by the wind. They were flapping and flying, but moving nowhere. It was really surreal -- fortunately, the wind died down enough that they made it back to the house. I sure hope yours make it back.

Thanks for the support everybody! I just got home and 11 out of 18 are back in the box! I am satisfied! It was a good eye opener for me. The seasons are changing and the sharks are coming back around. Time to pay attention and fly smart! ---------- Val

That happens to us also...birds go out in decent weather with a light wind, BOP sends them up and up, the wind gets wild with hurricane strength gusts...if the birds don't make it back after 3 days we never see them again. We used to watch the barometric pressure and not fly when it was too high but that doesn't seem to matter much on a mountain plateau in the desert. Wind is always unpredictable here.

Val, Hope Your day is going better! I agree that You should get most if not all of Your birds back , especially if they were flying low at darkness. I have personally got a few birds back even after a week or two, and belive that the homing instinct kicks in after some time for the lost birds. Speaking of homing instinct, Ive talked with a few others on this and some say that todays rollers are losing that trait! so for me, they have to have it, or they are possiblly lacking it, if they fail to eventually return to the loft,, somthing to consider? Good Luck to You!

I agree! Figure its a bad trait, still missing 5 from that group. I have several of their siblings in the 3rd kit and they are getting it together.
I am happy with the families that I am working with. As Scott says, I just need to focus on circling the wagons now! I still say their manager is their biggest handicap! LOL ---------- Val

I can relate to you my friend, I had an excellent A team of 20 bird and lost 11 to an overfly. There were some dandy birds that were lost, all my falt. I flew for a friend out of town and while looking up I saw clouds going in two different directions. I knew I was in trouble. Sure enough they scattered and only 9 made it back/ Now here I am getting ready for the fall fly and wanting to fly in the 11 bird kit, of which I have never flown. but cannot as not enough to qualify. So I have added 2008 birds for the 20 bird fly, that are coming on nice, actually have deeper spin, so maybe a blessing in discess. But losing birds in an overfly is tough, I hope that you get the good uns back. Terry

Thanks Terry and welcome to the site!
Still missing 5 total! 2 that I really wanted to see mature. They were nestmates from a daughter/father mating(Higgins)! They were 2 of the hardest workers that I've raised so far.
Maybe next year! LOL ---------- Val
