I GOT A YOUNG SMALL RED BAR HEN THAT I WANT TO SHOW AT THE BOB SCOTT AND ICRC SHOW ...BUT HOW DO PREPARE THEM FOR THE SHOW PEN

Well Nick i was told by a Guy who is a Top Breeder 2 let them bath a week befor an worm them a couple of days befor the show if i can remember right! I usually wet'em with a water holes let dry give wheat Germ oil 2-3 weeks befor with plenty of salfflower worm them an powder them down checkem real Good flights, tail make sure all is in place an show'em. Normaly I take the best straight out of my A team , they never win though because that isn't what wins shows,go figure.

If you really want him to look sharp, bathe him in a pan of water with a table spoon of bleach or even better bluing if you can find it. Blowdry being careful not to blow the feathers the wrong way. Put Vet-r-X on the feet, legs and beak just before placing in the show pen. The rest is up to the bird.

Sippi you are right on the money with the "Blueing"! Thats an old secret. I use it and it works great. Especially with a lil bleach, epsom salt, and bluieng makes the birds look fabulous. But for best results I find that bathing at least 4 days prior to a show will give the birds plummage time to get its shine back.
