I have a black self pair banded NCRC 07 I purchased from A feed store a few months ago. two weeks later they produced eggs. The eggs hatched about a month ago one of the babies died but one of them survived and appears to be very healthy. A few days ago out of curiousity on their performance I flew the cock with my kit to see how he would perform. He roll ok maybe 5ft not very tight spin nor velocity more like flipping 2 or 3 times. The next day I decided to fly the hen and I was very impressed deep roller tight spin depth of at least 20ft. I notice she claps before she starts her spin but within 30 minutes flying she may only perform twice in the time of flying. I fly her with about 11 more birds in the kit. I also notice that she seems to be very cautious before she actually starts her roll. When the birds are kitting tight she seems to be looking to see if another bird is too close or beneath her before she actually starts her roll. She will clap and attempt the roll when she is clear of the other birds in the kit but if she notices another bird next to her or under her she will clap and only flip maybe once or twice. Is this normal do i consider her a smart bird. Like i said earlier I have seen her spin with deep, very nice tight ball and velocity but only when I fly her with a smaller kit. She seems to be a bit hesitant to roll deep when flying with more than 7 or 8 bird kit.

Im surprised no one replied back to your thread. Anyhow, sorry to say, they are both culls in my book. The cock is an 07 bird and only flipping...not even tumbling only flipping. The hen, although she rolls tight and fast at 20 feet, shes NOT freqeunt at all. twice in 30 minutes...now at least once a minute or more now we're talking! Shes too stiff, not only does she not spin frequently, shes blatantly resists the roll. I had a ash red badge cock that would spin a incredible 40 foot, but would do the same as decribed as your hen...unfortunatley it was a cull. Those traits will pass on to their young, my advice is to not breed from them. Fly out the only young you have from them if you wish and see how he/she does, he/she might surpise you. But odds will say it wont make the cut. But hey, its just my 2 cents and you feed bill!
Can you post up pics of them for us? ---------- Gary

Thanks Gary i'm going to follwo your advice although I'm just getting started only had my birds about two months and have flown them may 25 times. I don't want to waste my time with a bird if he/she is not performing up to my expectations. The cock I kinda knew he wasn't going to be in my loft much longer. The hen I like the way she rolls but she's hesitant just like you said and may pass that trait on to her young.Still might keep her give her a bit more time but the Cock got to go. I want birds that kit well and tight roll with volicity and depth of at leat 20 to 30 feet and have control of the roll. From what I've read on these threads this is work weeding out the ones that don't fit your critera but I'm serious about this and don't want to be wasting my time on anything that I know cannot give me the results I'm looking for. Again thanks
