On the kit birds, I keep my wheat and milo seperate so I can play with the amounts to keep them where I want them. My base is 50/50 though with a sm handful of safflower everyday. They get mix every 4 or 5 days though just to keep them healthy. I don't fly the day after they get the mix.
For my breeders and young birds, I mix 2 parts milo, 2 parts wild bird feed(from Wal-Mart), one part wheat, 1 part black oil sunflower seed, and 1 1/2 parts laying pellets. During the molt,I add a handful of safflower every other day or so. Mine do well on it!
If peas where cheaper, I would add 1 part of them too. When I get my milo, it usually has peas in it for some reason anyways. During the molt, I add a handful of safflower every other day or so.
They eat better than my family! LOL ---------- Val
