The little "gaudy" (as one of you guys called it -- lol!) Texas Flag cotton candy shack survived the storm intact, except that it lost its brand new white roof. Sub roof is intact, so all is fine, but it appears that the wind picked the building up and was going to send it sailing, but when the top roof yielded, it sat back down again.
Baby birds born during the hurricane survived for a couple of days, but apparently too stressed to make it. Birds born afterward are fine.
Thank God the temp took a dip afterwards and we are enjoying nice fall weather while we have no electricity (for weeks, they tell us). Makes the birds fly better!
Tons of trees down, roof gone off the house, tree fell across the truck, wasn't sure the birds would find it easy to trap back in with a whole new world to look at, but they did.
Just got Rita's damage paid off when Ike sailed in. All is well, though, as long as we still have our health.
Oh, and it helps to have our "g" key, too -- I let my parrot out to fly this morning and she pulled the "g" key off my keyboard. Now it's hard to type. Thinking about making Parrot Gumbo (or Parrot and Dumplings)!

laura glad you and family are alright I have been through a couple of hurricane myself and know the feeling what is more important is that you are ok hoping you get your electricity sooner and that parrot is just letting some frustration out by pulling the g letter out of the keyboard so don't make a dumpling just yet..g is for going places he is trying to point out or glad to be alive.God Bless...... ---------- Ralph

thanks, Chewy!
ROFL, Ralph -- I agree! I used to keep quiet about my battle with cancer, but now you can't shut me up. After lying in that hospital bed for 2 months not sure if I was gonna make it, I could live in the barn and be happy! From a wheelchair to a Harley, I am grateful or any and all o God's blessings, and I am sure there is a silver lining in this hurricane somewhere -- some contact I will make because of it, some hidden blessing. Just gotta find it!
You got your health, you're a rich person! Any other problem in life is just a 'thang'.
