my dad had a sub family of white rollers, actually they were double grizzle (bull eyed whites), they sure were bullets in the air. anyways nice looking white self Hector, looked like a platz bird.
Hey Dave, I remember you donated that one to the auction along with his daughter. Was a good 40 footer and good producer if I recall correctly. I wanted to bid on that pair bad but the funds said told me no at the time. What do you mean cliff killed it? It would have flourished and done much justice in my loft I tell you! Still an Amazing looking bird Dave. ---------- Gary

Thanks Gary,
All I know is that Cliff told me that a few days after he came up to pick up the birds from me, he found both of them dead in his kit box. It was the strangest thing I ever heard of, those birds were extremely healthy when Cliff picked them up, and he said that he didn't lose any other birds. It's a mystery, I never heard of anything that would kill 2 healthy old birds like that, so quickly, and at the same time.

Gee thanks, Dave, for framing it up that way, buddy........
Man, I hated to lose that bird. I drove all the way to New York to pick up the pair; didn't want to take the chance of shipping them. The two old birds died within 2-3 days in the quarantine kitbox. The old cock never even showed any signs. The hen was fluffed up for about 8 hours before she died. Dave had also given me a few young birds to fly out and they all did fine; no sign of any illness. No other birds in my lofts were ill at the time. I use a lot of supplements and preventives, treat routinely for Coccidiosis and Canker, diagnose problems early and rarely lose a bird in my lofts. Dave suggested that it was because he watered them out of open containers and I used founts. It's hard to believe that mature pigeons would be dumb enough to starve themselves to death for water with other birds in the same box drinking their fill...but who knows. I'll never quite figure that one out. I did think it was interesting when I spoke with Mitch Reed in Oregon. Jay Yandle had temporarily housed a kit, here in the Carolinas, for Szabatura when he came down for a fly, and Jay sent them on to Mitch in Portland. Mitch told me that most of the kit became ill and died soon after they arrived. That's too much of a coincidence for me....I figure we have some sort of adenovirus or something in the Carolinas that our birds have developed immunity to, but not Dave's northern birds where the cold winters may kill out and control the virus. Who knows? But that's a risk we take when we import birds from other lofts. It's the best explanation I have come up with. I have, since, decided to avoid bringing other birds in. Cliff

Hey Cliff,
Framing it up what way? Did I say something that wasn't true? I think I summed up exactly what you had told me. Whatever happened to those 2 birds, as I said, I've never see anything that would kill 2 healthy birds like that in such a short time.
You need to check your facts though, I never sent a kit of birds to Mitch through Jay Yandle, I don't know what you are referring to. I did pick up 2 birds from Jay that Ivan had sent to him for me. I brought those 2 birds up here and they never were sick. If any birds died at Mitch's house, I doubt it came from Jay, as you suggest, because Mitch had some sickness go through his lofts back then, that he blamed on a duck and some other birds that he had bought at some show.
As far as some adenovirus from North Carolina goes, I did send a kit of babies, and a couple old birds, to Clay Hoyle last year and he did not report any sick birds. So, as I said, it's a mystery.

Cliff,
LOL is defined by everyone as "Laugh Out Loud", which is what I wrote in the picture post above, where I (here it comes, pay attention now) JOKINGLY said that you killed it.
Your character comes through everytime that you over react to posts that hit you the wrong way. Re-read my posts above without being paranoid about some hidden meaning that isn't there.

You'll just have to forgive my parnoia then, Dave. That's the trouble with these dang computers. We tend to take folks at their word. When one makes a derogatory remark like that about someone, in my book, it doesn't absolve him of the responsiblity for what is said by just posting "LOL". I guess it's that New York humor thing....you know...humor at the expense of others....And when you added, "Framing it up what way? Did I say something that wasn't true? I think I summed up exactly what you had told me," I guess I was just being paranoid again. I was thinking that you sounded like you meant what your said, again, for some odd reason. Don't take this too serious, Dave, but, for example, you know we have not explored one other possiblity of why the birds died in only two days. They may have been sick to begin with! LOL. Maybe I paid way too much for the birds and you donated sick old breeders to the auction! LOL. Now I don't really believe that, Dave, so don't go gettin' paaranoid on me. LOL. It's just fun. LOL! Right! I'm going to have to use this LOL thing more often! Thanks for the tip! (Believe me, I wasn't any happier about losing them, at the time, than you were.) Cliff

Cliff,
It was a JOKE, lighten up!
I did not make a derogatory remark, although you made a few.
When I post on these forums, I think of it as if we were all standing around having a conversation together. So, I throw a little jab your way and joke that you killed it. If we were all standing around together, I'd let you off the hook with a little laugh (LOL), and then explain what really happened. Which is exactly what I did in my posts. If you can't understand that, then you need to get a little thicker skin and I need to not joke around with you anymore. I joke around with my buds, and they with me. I guess I need to keep serious with you, no problem.

Dave, Just for the record, I did check my facts on the birds you shipped to Mitch Reed through Jay. Yesterday, both men confirmed my recollection as accurate. All but one died. Mitch emphasized that he has since received healthy birds directly from you without any problems. I have the e-mails if you would like to see them, privately. Cliff

Cliff,
For the record, here's what you wrote in the post above that started this:
" I did think it was interesting when I spoke with Mitch Reed in Oregon. Cliff"
You claimed that I sent a KIT of pigeons to Mitch, and that MOST of the kit died SOON after arriving. That is not true, and as I said you should have checked your facts before writing that, instead of sending an e-mail to Mitch after I called you on it.
What I sent to Mitch was THREE birds, nowhere near a kit by any definition. TWO of those birds later died from different illnesses, one had a respiratory infection, and the other succombed to the disease that Mitch had brought into his loft from a duck. Neither of them died "soon after arriving", as you had claimed. The respiratory infected bird died weeks after arrival, and the other bird died weeks after that. They did not die from some adenovirus as you claimed. Also, their demise was nothing like the scenario that occured to the 2 healthy old birds that you took home, that died at the same time, showing no sign of illness beforehand, within days of you bringing them to your place. The 3 birds that I sent Mitch were very young babies, just weaned, that you know can be susceptable to picking up an illness quickly from being run down from all the shipping around to 2 different lofts.
The bottom line is that I don't see any correalation between the 2 incidents, and as I said, check your facts first beforehand, not after being called on it.
Dave

Geesh, Dave......PARDON ME! The whole issue was that you sent birds through Jay to MItch and some died after their stay in the Carolinas. I was drawing a similar correlation to my incident with your birds. To deny it based strictly on the technicality of the number of birds is illogical. You ought to be in politics. Cliff

Dave,STRESS,will put the healthiest of birds down.Shipping, new enviorment, new climate, break in the routine.
Dave, the fish was fryed in oil because it opened it's mouth. In hindsight,I'm sure if you were in Cliff's shoes ,you would not want to be on the recieving end of that comment.Beneath our hardshell exteriors,we are all soft and mushy when it comes to our rollers. That would of not been a well recieved comment in an intimate setting, let alone on a national forum.
It's a shame about that white bird,I was bidding on it as well....Aloha,Todd
