Ok I really dont know if anyone has tryed this,, But I have on a small scale. I have seen it in a video and never really seen the proof till now.. Recently I have had alot more time with my bird's. When I came home my wife had taken really good care of my kit birds,, however when I started to workum I noticed alot ofum were uneven... What I mean is some in the moult and some feed more... So what I did was feed each bird on a indivual basis... This has worked wonders..they are all prettie much even now and I notice a diffrence in performance... I am now in the process of building a 22 bird indivual training box 12inX12inX12in.no perch. This means each bird will have its own compartment, with this I can regulate the feed. a teaspoon or two will actually be that. keep in mind that this will only be for a short period when I am peaking the team for comp...I know some will say that it will be time cosuming but that is mainly if time is a issue for you... right now I have the time...and am looking foward to trying this... if any one has done this feel free to gimme some input thanx for your time...

Square,
No doubt about it. Individual feeding is the best way to go, when it is practical. The problem is usually logistics, considering you may be dealing with the individual feeding of 100 birds, depending on the fancier.

I've been wanting to do this for a couple of years now, but its just not possible here in town. I think it only makes sense in leveling the performance of them. Some can just out eat others.

I don't see it taking but 20 boxes to do this either, or however many you have in your largest kit. Let them eat their ration and toss them back in the kitbox. Fly your next kit and then repeat.

If I get my privacy fence built someday, I am going to try this method!

Booker its funny you brought this up. It was posted on Earls list today also. A really simple way to do it without having to build a new kit box. I am going to start on one tomorrow and will post a pic when I am finished. It is made of wire and is just four by four by ten inch cubes as wide as your kit box and as tall as you need to get twenty or more birds in. It has a closable wire back to keep the hogs in till the slow pokes finsih. I know my birds arent getting even amounts.

Sweet sippi, I was begining to think, I was the lone ranger...LOL The reason I was talking about the 20 indivuals, is because it takes me 15min or more to feedum.. With this system I am building I can putum all in at once and feed them all at once...keep me updated on your progress.

Ok, I saw a pic of this style of feeding cage. Looks pretty easy to make and wouldn't take much room. I'm all for it being a key to control of your birds!

Just got to figure a way to adapt it to my kitbox! Spending my free time building ind breeding pens right now!

Sound like a great idea i remember back them when i would feed 25 birds one by one a tablespoon each grab one birds feed it alone put it back in another kitbox grab another do the same thing time consuming .but everyone ate the same amount.the harder workers got a lil more.can;t wait to see what you guys got,..

Yea Im still working out the kinks.. but I got a prettie good blueprint.. just want to clarify it will be for feeding only after that is done they can go into the kit box togeather,,, Im just looking at it as a tool for prep,, not long time storge... I have been doing the same thing with feeding them one at a time,,, and I have really noticed a considerable diffrence... cant wait till it all comes togeather... maby even a smaller scale would be just as effective maby only 10 or so and sendum trough in waves.. just somthing to think about, keep me posted...

Hey Booker, how are you doing? Is that Three Rivers near where you live. Get in touch with Ken Billings (KGB) he flew some real successful kits out of the same kind of box you are talking about. I thought it was a lot of work myself, but Ken didnt and he made it work.

Here is what I think of this....ok...you get a kit of birds..you fly them and pick your birds that make your A-team. You are feeding with standard trays like most of us do. The birds made it to the A-team based on the performance to make it with the tray feeding system like most. Now those birds have done what they do to make the team..picking out whatever grains tickle there fancy. Now you take birds and fee them individually and give them more food then they usually get or more grains that they usually do not eat and you may change the performance to the negative.

I tried this trial before...not feeding individual but feeding individual types of grains ...so I would feed wheat..when they were done...I would feed milo...for example..my thought is that they would all have equal amounts of the same grains or close to it....but I have found that all birds are not equal...meaning that some birds do not need as much carbs to tear it up or as much protein....so what happend is that my performance went down.....my mistake was looking to much into it....so my philosophy is this...keep feeding what go the birds to the A-team in the first place...so what I am trying to say is....the eat what they eat and have gotten to that point of making your a-team on open trays keep it going.

Now I do my birds by feel...if they are getting to light then I may feed a bird or two on there own...it is really important on the final days of prep...to handle your birds....because if a little hen is not getting enough grub..then I will feed her up a little...but my main goal is not to cater to inferior birds that cant hang....so if they cant hang..they are pulled...

I have tried the individual and it was to much work for what you get out of it.

rock and ROLL

Paul

Look at it this way...every bird is different (metabolism)..just like my brother and I...I can eat pretty much what I want and stay lean....he has to work out ALOT to stay lean....and we are brothers....birds are the same way....some need more feed some need less.

Yea Bro Great mind's think alike...LOL Paul I had ben doing what you said also... Indivual grains in phases... This has also worked for me... I Know that I personally would love nothing more than to just tray feedum and be done ,,, but it is just as described,, and you spend alot of time finding the balance,,, or it just happens,, they say you need to feed one teaspoon per bird I have herd this and basically know its just a rule of thumb,,, but some birds eat twice that becuase the are faster on the peck... I am thinking of this new tool, to actually see wich birds can perform as desired buy the equal amount given,,, In my opion the will point out clearly which bird's this amount is actually working for.. Then From this one can determine if their perticular family works well collectively off lets say 100% wheat, or Barley,, Or how just 10 peas will effectum.. Ya know.. The reason I have been looking at this harder is because I fly two families that are baised diffrent,, one Is English baised and the other's lets just say open...people have told me I shouldent flyum togeather,,, however I have been doing it for years with great results.. They complent one another in the kit.. Right now Im at the point will Ill have a strong flock of each in 09 I am also lookin @ crossing the two.. I just want to putum on this system to see how what effect's the truly... Thanx for you time BRO'S... Max How Long you been doing this??? Looks Like is working,, from the Vid's
