I have a really weird question.. Have you ever seen in your life, a bird that couldn't ever spin, but after seeing other birds do it, over and over and over again, it started to train itself and began to flip or roll?

Andrew you never be able to prove that the bird learn from looking at the other birds.because it could just have been that the bird genes started to kick in.late starter or what have you..----------

yea
that happened to me a couple of times.
when i was younger and had junk rollers i use to fly them with regular barn pigeons and with big king size pigeons.
i had a regular that fliped and a big big king pigeon that fliped.
i thought that all birds can flip if they wanted to.

Yeah exactly Fresno, I wonder if you put a WILD pigeon with a kit of really good rollers, if that Wild pigeon would develop any roll/flips after couple years or so..

the art of rollin comes in the birmingham rollers' genes, its a cramp they get in their back muscle.

I don't think it's possible. It's in the genes that make them roll. I have wild pigeon here and there and sometime they fly with my kit which I don;t like seeing, but they will NEVER EVER roll. Those that you might have seen roll from other birds is because they might have been mixed with roller genes. I have seen some somewhat western england type roll because they were a bit mixed my BR.
I use to thought that that could happen, but at the end, it isn't possible for a wild pigeon to make a full back flip.

seriously Andrew its so hard enough to make my culls roll let alone a commie if anything they will hold your birds back.take heed from this and separate your birds into two groups one that starts flipping from those that just fly.
Washington made a good point ..

IF its in their genes then why don't they roll when they are being chased by BOP??

Kel is right. Why in the world would a BR roll when it's being chase. That's because its Fright & Fight hormone kicks in, delaying their rolling abilities. Diving is the best way to ditch that BOP.

actually no bird can out dive a hawk, falcon ect..
from my experience the only to survive a attack is for the bird to fly higher and higher.
hawks can dive up to 150 miles per hour or more
so yea

dont think your bird can out dive a attack.

Not true.. this bird left a Coopers in his dust.. He made that hawk look stupid! One of the smartest fastest moving rollers I have seen. He flew several feet up and then quickly turned down and dove and right before the ground he came back up and headed for the kit. But the hawk was too close behind so he had to take a different path into a forest.. I went to get him and he came to me..
