What would be the best way to foster from 5 specific foundation pairs? I have about 18 pairs that I can use as foster parents. Thanks

The most important thing when using foster parents is egg timing. You must be in control of when the pairs mate.

I do this by pairing birds in adjacent cages, they cant get to each other for awhile. If sexes have been separated for a few months they will pair in a couple of days. They will usually breed in seconds.

The pairs and first round fosters are put together on the same day, and the first eggs come in about 18 days. I switch eggs after the second is layed, some wait a few days.

The day that you switch eggs, let the second round foster parents be together. The main pairs eggs may be a day or two late, but it wont matter.

You can just keep this up, but I usually let pairs rase a round after this. You can also breed one cock to several hens using this method, using 2 foster pairs for each hen.

I use 3 foster pairs for every pair of breeders. You can get a lot of birds from a few select pairs of birds. But I do allow the original breeders to raise every 3rd round.
