Since 4,000 horses aren't enough to take care of (not really, but the feed bill feels like it!), cattle, chickens, pigeons, dogs aren't keeping me busy enough, I recently fulfilled a life dream and got myself a parrot. She's a baby African Grey and they don't usually start talking until they're a year old.
My girl, Lucy (Ricardo!), is only 4 months old, almost 5 months, not talking yet but picking up my whistles really well.
I have taught her the "hey you" whistle, and the flirty wolf whistle.
This morning, for the first time, she woke me up (from the next room)with the "hey you" whistle.
This morning, it made me smile.
Tomorrow morning, I bet it will make me smile again.
Next week, it might make me hungry.
For Parrot and Dumplings.
HAHA!

Laura, just wait til she learn how to crow like a rooster...for the next 50 years! LOL
Once they start mimicking and talking they WON'T shut up. And their vocabulary can be HUGE!
Been there, done that.
Have fun with her,
Russ
PS: I hope you got the Congo Grey and not the Timney Grey.

Laura I had a friend that had one. He was a firefighter and the parrot learned the alarm whistle. He would go off in the middle of the night and they would jump up and go to the fire station only to be the only one there. They had to shut him in a room at night.

Mario, I was being silly when I said I had 4,000 but when I have to pay the feed bill, it FEELS like I do! I just have a few, but feed is $15 a sack and a horse can eat 2 sacks a week. That adds up! (But I make my living with the horses so it's a necessary expense.)

Thanks, Andrew. Hey, Sippi -- that would be horrible if a bird learned that alarm. They are capable of really shrill sounds, and I'd have to move her to the pigeon house if she did that!
Russ, she is a Congo, but I've heard the Timnehs aren't as inclined to bite. Why are you advising against the TAG?
