How many of you guys and girls are still flying? Just curious. Let my birds out yesterday and got hit by a cooper, falcon, and then a redtail. Gladly everyone made it home safely. No more flying for me

I flew 3 kits no bop
2 weeks ago a bop chased them up and down for 4 hours... the birds did not want to land.
A couple of close calls and tail feathers missing. I took six of the best and put them in the breeding coop for lock down the rest i figure i will continue to fly .
you know on that day the hawk gave up and flew away after several failed attempts
Two weeks no attacks . IT was probably a baby cooper.
I am sure as winter arrives and food supplies narrow he will be back to get them.

I was also hit by a cooper today. That was the first one I have seen this fall. It made two passes through and really scattered my birds all over the sky but I got them all back. I tried to call them down and some of them came down but some of the others just went up higher and I had to wait them out but after about 30 min. they all came back in. This was my younger kit and I had just turned them out when it happened. My birds really need some my fly time so I think I will lay them up for a couple of days and then try to fly them again. I hate to give up this soon but do not want to loose all of my birds either. This is my first year to really breed and be able to put some some kits up so it has been a big learning curb for me. I went ahead and flew the birds today but did hold back a few of the more promising young birds. No BOP's in sight today but the second kit got rained out early so they only had a short fly. I decided that most of the young birds still need to prove themselves to me yet and since this was really my first year to do much breeding I need to know what breeders are producing for me so until some of these young birds prove something to me or the BOP's start hitting me and not just passing through I will fly my young birds. I am still flying...I have been hit one time by a cooper since Feb...and my dog at that cooper...it bounced off the loft chasing the bird and my Min Pin...well....ripped the BOP's head off when it hit the ground messed up. I have had two Falcon attacks......one during my young bird fly and never got a bird...the flacon hit one time and then flew off...and that was both occasions.....
I flew three teams every day for the last two weeks and nothing during training.

I got hit for six days straight. Coopers, merlins, sharp shin, red tail. No losses. All were hits on my Orientals or Fireballs. No hits on my Birms that I fly after four oclock in the afternoon. I fly every day at least six or seven kits.

Hi Will,
as youknow I live about 10 miles from you.
I have lost three birds to a Cooper in the last 2 weeks. the a team is now locked down and will only be flown twice a week between now and our final club fly on nov 1. Those that I want for stock are pulled out.
I am still flying the yong birds every day and will shut those down immediately following our last club fly, only to be flown on weekends perhaps through Nov and then completely locked down till mid feb or March. Regards,
Ken

hey guys, this roller girl is flying some here in AZ but the birds are still molting and most only have half a tail. had a prarie falcon sitting on the breeding loft at 7:15 am this morning trying to find a way inside for breakfast. it's here everyday, usually in the early morning. comes in real low to the ground, up and over the lofts and if the rollers are out it waits until they land and then tries to force the birds down from the top of the kitbox to the ground... and they always flush and fly up,up,up. the rollers are a little panicky but no losses....yet. haven't seen the redtails for awhile. earlier in the summer the redtail pair raised 1 youngster in a tree down in the wash...freaked the rollers out but never really bothered them at all. fascinating to watch as the mother redtail was teaching the youngster to fly and hunt...she got underneath the baby and actually lifted it up and up. it cried all the way.

I would still be flying daily if the sun didn't go down so early. I leave for work just after the sun comes up and get home as it is setting, or after dark. So weekends are the only option right now.
Keeping fingers crossed about the BOPs though. Haven't been hit but have seen some in the area. If I start getting hit I may lock down for winter, but my plan is to fly throughout winter weekends.
I just got my first YBs end of Summer and we've hardly logged any fly time together. ~Karen

i dont really fly my birds anymore so no coopers creeping around the hood but got hit last week by a sky shark. dive bombed the kit, viciously targeted a kit bird but that BR flew like there was no tommorow. then went straight sky rocketing for another kit bird right into the sun like a missile missing it by an inch or so. tried really hard but wasnt good enough. it was a sight to see. my BR kit was diving like doneks and manuvering like Orientals scattered everywhere across the sky. not to mention kitting too. lol. it was a good one. no birds where harm. safe and sound.-joe v.

No more BOP sightings here so for now I will keep them flying. I have two kits of yb's that I have been flying almost everyday. I will Be going to Southern IL. for a pigeon show this weekend and taking a dozen rollers to show along with a few Homers, Archangels and Damascenes. I am looking forward to visiting with some real nice roller breeders at the show should be a nice show.

I haven't had any bop attacks here in the O.C. There's a lot of these wild doves around that the falcons & hawks are feeding on. Fortunately for me, I can still keep flying my birds.
