Which strain is the best? When people say things like these are the best birds you can have what criteria are they using to make these statements? How do you determine which is best or if mthey are really good? Are they being compared to other strains or put up against other strains or merely assumptions based on being locked in your own backyard? Just a little something to think about. I personaly have witnessed thousands of kits and have yet to see a strain that has all the attributes I look for in high %.

Keith that is great observation on some of the statements made. The best strain is the one that fits a person’s individual needs or wants. It is all relative. Also, I have to agree with you on the statements as they should state that the strain is the best for them because what is good for them may not be good for you or me or someone else.

Right on guys.. I think a lot of people hear these big names (Higgins, Smith, Pensom, ....) and automaticly assume that these birds are the best strain. I will have to say that I agree with you Keith and would like to add that it doesnt take too long for someone to DESTROY birds. So as far as the "BEST" strain ""to each his own""... Just my two cents ... ---------- N/A Loft

Watts, The club meeting is usually the 2nd week of January but you have to be voted in and someone is supose to nominate you, which is never a problem. Are you ready or will you be ready for comp?

Good question Keith... and it sort of humbles us to really look at our birds and to admit that there is a lot of work for all of us to improve what we have, Paul G

Great answers! Makes me feel better. I'm starting to think that my birdees are perfect for me because they are pro-feshunnal trappers! They're young, still not rolling well yet, but man, they trap in GREAT! lol
(And of course, the one that was starting to roll got taken by the Cooper, the one and only -- so far -- attack.)
I still love hearing their wings flap, the sound of the rushing air when they buzz by, watching the sun shine off their feathers when they turn in the sky. I can't wait for the thrill of the roll!

Keith, great post! I think it is what best fits a individual. I tried a few different strains and I probably did not give some enough time but I think now I am working with one that works for me. I will also agree with what Scott Campbell said! It is all about what you cultivate!!! ---------- Sal Ortiz

Great Post Smoke I think most guys in our great hobby go of hear say and look at pedigree and big names more then the roll performance of there birds. I also agree with Scott the better the stock loft the better your chance of having good offspring but it is easeir to produce junk then the goods
