I was speaking to a group of guys recently and they were adamant about many things in the fancy. One was if you do not have ____ed birds you do not have crap was the exact words. The other was if you do not belong to the __brc you are nobody. Now these guys were not joking and they were serious. They also told me that most guys feel this way but may not express it to me or others but discuss it among friends. One thing that really got my attention was the fact that they do not care about knowledge in the sense of having an intelligent discussion, learning new ideas or even hearing about anything but only are interested in who wins in competition. I told them I joined the club they mentioned in the 70's and where were they at the time? I also ask them does that mean they were “ a nobody” at that point because they were not members. This is amazing logic. I do see it sometimes on some of the post as some feel that if you do not conform to what is popular your view is meaningless.

I would have to disagree with them.I don't belong to any big club like the _BRC and i think i compete with the best of them.I was in that club at one time though.

3757, My answer to your question would be, YES. There are folks that think if a successful flier does something a certain way, then that's the only way to do it. If someone else disagrees they better have a better record or their opinion will be disregarded and or ridiculed. This problem has gotten ALOT better though.

unfortunately there are those type of people in rollers, but you should not be alarmed, they are everywhere. They are narrow minded and can only progress so far and only for a short time as the people who are open minded and are willing to share and absorb will continually grow and expand to new levels. This is not a venture that stand still. They are also the ones believe that the pedegree is the bird and a son or daughter of "who ever" is a champion and is too valuable to fly it out. Tune them out and fly on. ---------- They gotta Spin to win.....Jay

3757, ABSOLUTLY
We see it all the time in some clubs. Some members are never ask to fly, while some members who have won fly’s 5 to 10 years ago, still to this day get the fly time they want, or they CRY foul and will not fly. Even though they DQ the last four or five last fly’s.
They never participate in or belong to any club. But they still receive special treatment.
Politics are everywhere even in flying pigeons.
The person who wins the region should be the only person to choose his fly time. Everyone else should have their name pulled from a hat.
Fair is fair except in Love & War, and flying pigeons.

Laron unlike most, Ilike the hobby and I am always trying different things to make it more interesting for all. I keep an open mind all the time. I am just allergic BS, and it's a lot of that out there. I get criticized by people like that but behind my back, which is cool too. There is a group out there that thinks they have the best family in the world and there is alot of them. Unfortunate for them the best spinners I've seen were not from that family. It's just some people need to show their point view in the air instead of always stating it verbally. action speaks louder than words

All thanks for the responses!
Madmax - The problem that I have with the statement of action speaks louder than words is in the interpretation. Many have come to the point where they could care less about a persons character, morals/ ethics as long as they are flying in their segment and kicking butt that is all the action they want to see. I have no quarrels if someone believes that but it is not an attitude that I adhere to. So, if someone wants to have a discussion about genetics you are stating that this is unwarranted? No discussion to learn about genetics, breeding, health? You see if that is the attitude then we have come to the old cave man philosophy and I cannot buy into it.

Sometimes it is better off left alone, telling people to put up or shut up could backfire! I joined a club this year and I never flew for people-never seen a top kit in performance-just enjoyed my BACKYARD birds, the guys kept nagging me to fly in one of their flys, these guys have been flying for many years with top name birds,I gave in and agreed to fly and beat all their kits-came in 2nd, THANKS LARON!!!!!! A friend of mine placed 1st with birds I gave up thinking I could do better, but I am still studing these birds. ---------- Pat

Hello, I saw this thread and took notice of it. One poster said something that amounts to "put up or shut up", blah blah blah...
So to follow that line of reasoning, the next time we hear from this poster is after he has won an important fly like the Fall Fly or World Cup?
I have a feeling that won't be the case nor do I want it to be the case, but I'm just sayin...LOL ---------- FLY ON! Tony Chavarria

Ifwe all followed the masses we would all have the same bird's. Everyone winning....POINT BLANK. we would all have the best.. In my mind and experence, itsabout who can cultivate the best rollers,,, thats it and over the years things change,,, in my personal opion ther isnt onefamily of rollers that are constantly on the top.. This is what brings the challenge,, not to say ther arnt some families of rollers out there to be had that are really good but it is up to the handler to ither build it better or ride the name of the guy he got the birds from. Its would be a shame to win some big fly in your back yard and only have the "WOWED" people look past you into the person's birds you are flying. Then next year they are rocking the house, I think it is up to everyone to represent what they foundate/build, push the bar and cut the training wheels away, we all gotta crawl befor we walk, but how fast you walk is entirely up to you, thats why some are faster than others. its not really because of the push the got in the begining,, it's momentum I guess thats hoew u spell it..LOL

I really didn't want to get involved in this thread but.... I find it quite amusing. History can't be changed. This type of attitude has been around for centuries. I just love to hear people open up their mouth and "SHOW" how "IGNORANT" they are. Instead of letting others "THINK" they are "IGNORANT".....LOL. I take this type of nonsence with a grain of salt.Like water off a duck's back

Paul (Windjammer)!!!! Amen, Bruthah!
All of the hot air and braggin', even if 'earned', is trivial in the scheme of life if you put it into perspective . . . . see how much any of this matters when you're sitting in a hospital waiting to see if your kid is going to survive a car wreck, or how much it matters when you are lying up in a hospital bed fighing cancer and not sure you'll ever walk again, or if you're sitting at the kitchen table with a mountain of bills, the electricity going to be cut off because you lost your job and can't find another . . .
Doesn't matter if someone else thinks their stuff is better, as long as we're happy with what we got!

You will find people in every hobby that are stuck in their ways and feel that there is only one way to do things or one group to belong to. It is sad because these people who feel this way are not open to new ideas and will always limit themselves in what they can do. Always be true to yourslef and as long as your hobbies brings you enjoyment and you are getting what you want out of it do not let anyone tell you what you must do. ------ JohnL

There are a lot of people that refuse to accept the Fact that there are a lot more better pigeons around today then there was 25 years ago.
Can those that insist that Birds were better in the past be considered to believe so in a CULT way ???

When I hear people talk about how something was better 20 or 30 years ago and I hear it in pigeons, chickens, hunting dogs etc., is it because these people do not want to change with the times and really believe what they had then was better than what is out there now or is it that in their memory what they had then just seemed better?
