YES YES YES, that's what I've been thinking! So glad to hear I'm not the only one!

(And I hope I'm not imagining that some of you are thinking that I have crap birds or they'd already be rolling! lol)

The best of everything takes time. I would much prefer a slow developement over a fast and uncontrolled one. I speak only of my birds but they come in around six to seven months getting better in their second year. I mean truly rolling not tail riding, not flipping.

Have you flown your young birds with an older one or two? I've always sent up an older bird with newbies for a week or so & then let them come into their own. It takes time and a few tricks of your own to get birds to do what you want. Your profile tells me that you may be new to rollers. Rollers are like mastering a yoyo, the more you experiment, the more you will learn. You already know that each bird in your loft has a unique personality, use you mind to think of clever ways to train them.

I've had birds take over a year before they start to roll and other guys with the same strain have said to give 'em 2 years before you cull a bird that is kitting well.

I agree, I have had birds that took forever to roll. Some just don't develop like others. Kinda like people!

My advise to you and Laura is to go back and ask the person you got your birds from and ask them how long does it take their family of rollers to come into the roll. that's the first thing I did when I got my birds I was told from one family 5 to 9 month and another 4 to 7 month,so what I did was waited but since they were young and didn't roll i flew them more than once a day sometimes 3 or 4 times...20mins than 20 than 20 until it equal one hour .rest days also
I didn't over do it I knew when to rest them..but sure enough these birds started getting fly time in instead of once a day for 365 days they got twice the fly time...I don't know if this what made them come in earlier all i know they started rolling at 3 month in both family not just one.. so what ever your situation is Fresno I see you need patience you missing that trait once you have that you go on to the next step.and that is learning and learning and you will be around for as long as it takes that bird to roll.. ----------If your birds are program to roll at 6 month that s what it will take no matter what you do..I just know i saw something different in mine..good luck with yours..

but yea,
i got some birds that i was told would take some long months, like 6 to 9 months.
i would even have to give them a year.

patience is key in this hobby...if you dont have it, better go find a new hobby! on a serious note, patience will take you along way in this hobby as you can already tell. if you already knew it took your family 6 to 9 months to come in the roll, why are you already complaining? youll see a lot of progression in your birds, slowly but surely. dont expect them to become dynomite overnight, if they do..theyll cull themselves! Good luck and LISTEN TO OTHERS.

Hey y'all -- I don't know about Fresno, but I suspect (because I feel this way) that he's not really complaining -- just excited and eager. We don't consider ourselves to be whining -- just eager and maybe a little impatient. That means we have passion. Without passion, we're simply DEAD! Just sharing our frustration with you guys . . . hang on!

Depending on the family of birds you work with. Some birds come in faster than others.
