I have an 8yr old hen who stoppped laying and I'm wondering if she's too old to continue laying. I've tried calcium pills and even put her a young cok

Anyone :How old was your OLDEST hen when she stopped laying?

I still have a 97 Scott hen still laying fertile eggs. But it all depends how much you use her if you bred her all year round with out a break. Give her a break and breed her back in March.

Yeah it depends.. she may be done and out of eggs or she may have a whole tonne left..

That's an old bird right there, I agree, let her rest 'til spring and see if she gets that baby hunger again.

I have an 97 hen that lay like crazy but some how her eggs are never fertile so I use her for fostering...

12 Years old was my oldest. I had a hen on loan once that laid only one set of eggs for me during the whole season. Only one of those were fertile. She was 15 years old at that time. What suck more was the only youngster I got out of her was snatched by Mr. Cooper the second time out. Oh well, that's Rollers for you.

I have hens that are 8 years old now. The best way to ensure continued fertility with an old hen is to let her stay paired up and continue breeding year round. But not fostering.

Also, a large loft and flypen for lots of exercise are crucial to fertility longevity.
