Hello,

First of all I would like to thank you for your

The roller mentioned by us is not shown at any world literature. We hold these birds since 80-100 years.

(in our days those birds are held in Greece, Western Thrace, and Northwestern part of Turkey)

There is an estimated number of 3000 people holding this kind of roller. It is expected that tehese birds roll from 3 meters upwards.

Therefore these birds are can be seen as performance birds.

However a typical difference to other birds is the close combination of rolling and show performance.

We want first time a Flying rule..

For a qualitative roller pigeon breeder not only their rolling ability is important, but also their look and grace.

We are heading towards a unique combination of look and performance.

Generally they have one color. They also have a top (crown) on their head.

For a performance competition, which has a great importance for us, which judgement categories are of importance for us?

How is the pointage system?

We are planning to introduce this birds specifications on the internet as soon as possible. Thank you for your kind support .

Please feel free to come to visit us if you are in Turkey one day.

Kind Regards,

Tayfun Akar

Tayfun, I would sure like to see a few photos of your birds. It's interesting to hear of another breed of roller. It's not often that something this cool comes along. You are located in Turkey, are you not?

Wow! Those are some different looking rollers for sure! They seem to be a little larger than the standard Burmingham Roller. The solid colors are interesting because they are either just red or just black. can you get any mottled or white color in your breed? They look fast.

mottled thrace roller has been breeding until 1950 however ,since 1950 Turkish breeders prefer to breed black, red and white colors,so at the moment mottled pigeons cannot be found in Turkey easly also old breeders have some pairs
only in west thrace where Turks live as minority you can see mottleds. Please note that this birds are not birmingham roller.

I hope that one of the judges on this site can give you pointers on the rules and point systems used here in the U.S.A. Keep up the good work with your birds and continue to read this site, you may learn something new and we may learn from you!

Tayfun,

Have you looked at the World Cup Fly site - http://www.worldcupfly.com/ and the National Birmingham Rollers Club - http://www.nbrconline.com/? You can Google these sites and get information on the rules of flying compitition.

Yeah, a video would be cool. I wonder how those bird's roll differs from the birmingham? How deep is the average roll or how tight is the roll itself. They look like they're larger than our breed so how does that affect the roll?

Tayfun,
What kind of performances do these birds do. The Birmingham scoring system is based around one kind of performance, THE ROLL. You may want to score other types of performance: diving, tumbling, plate rolling, ect.

What size kits do you fly? (How many at time)

Dear Friends,

Thrace roller pigeons performance is only rolling, They donot dive or do anything. This kind of pigeons are bred for only rolling performance. Second important thing is physical characteristics.

They have totally different physical characteristics. The beak is medium size not small and should be white or cream. Eyes should be white and clear. Thrace roller has crown version. Their performance is same with clean headed. This mid size bird is very similar to the Oriental Roller in body shape. It is possible to see birds that carry their wings beside the tail and one or both below the tail.
Some friends asked what differences between the Birmingham and the Thrace roller are.

I want to tell you about my own observations herefore.

I want to start with the Thrace-Roller feeders expects to theit birds. Besides a fine and clear roll of these birds, their behaviour during flights (not to fly over foreign houses, not to land on different than the own house)

their affinity to their own home, their intelligence, their ability not to be cought easily, their self like looking breeds and their behaivour to give their special abilities to their breeds the breeders search for the entireness of the whole birds’ look.

It’s very important that the breed has the same colour their parents have. The breeders of these birds try not to mix parental birds with two differnet colours (e.g. Yellow-white, white-blue, red-yellow)

If there is a perfect roller with even one little spot, this bird will be seen as “lower quality”.

Another point in which the Thrace Roller can be different is the possibility to have a crown. There are over hundred breeders of this kind of Rollers with crowns in Turkey today. But as breeders are keen on this kind of thing (because of the clothing curiosity) since the last twenty years, many crowned pigeons do no rolling anymore as they formerly did.

With enough training these birds are able to fly 6 - 8 hours. But due to our todays circumstances like long working times not many people have the time tol et their birds fly so long. Also predatory birds are a reason for short flight times.

We examined your judging laws for our competition event in summer 2009. Many friends have sent me mails with the laws. But in order to fullfill a larger number of people taking part in the competitions we have to lower the requirements. As you can imagine our bird feeder culture is not settled as high as the culture of the Birmingham roller breeders L…

Especially your professional point of view and your breeding culture knowledge is being teached and told to breeders nearby. We take care about every little hint you give.

We wish you good luck on every festival and event you make.

We are prepairing new web site about thrace roller want to publish their videos in this site.
