I feed all my birds every day. There are exceptions like when I have to go out of town for work, I double or triple the amount I give the birds in each loft. I do the same for the kit birds. If I am going to be out of town for 2-3 days, I let them pork out until they stop eating. This is usually good for 2-3 days depending on the weather. Actually some of their best flys are when I return and fly them again.

bigwilly........sometimes when "I SCREW Up" for some reason or another I do skip a day but, that's only to get them back on track again. After I have made a mistake in feeding the first time. With that being said I do feed them everyday. ---------- Fly High and Roll On Paul

Hey Bigwilly, We have a local fly Saturday Nov. 1st.starting at Kens at 7:45 then Dwight and so on. Come if you can. I have skipped a day before when I knew I was not going to be able to feed them early in the day. I wouldn't make a habbit of it but if your birds are being over fed it is definately worth skipping one day. Or at least giving them half a cup if you were giving two cups. The feeding thing is the hardest part to get down and it takes most of us a year or two to really figure it all out. You really want the birds to fly for 30-45 minutes. Flying longer than an hour is not good. It sets in bad habbits and makes them stronger to fly longer each day. You really want to get all the rolling out of 30-45 minutes even when not flying for comps. It gets really hard when you fly hold over birds too. If you don't fly them regulary they can fly for two or three hours sometimes even though you didn't feed them too much. But they will come down in flying time if you keep flying them and keep the feed low calorie and not too much. Older birds seem to store up energy if not flown every other day, while young birds are easy to control the first year. Keep in touch. See ya Bill C in Sacto.

I feed daily but I ramp up a little corn in the colder months. I don't think that there is a real science to feeding but an occasional fast for your birds won't hurt them either. ---------- Rule #1: Don't build your loft anywhere near your wife's clothesline....

Willy,
I have routinely skipped a day just find. The birds just have to get use to it. Feed all they want the day prior to skipping. I go on hunting trips every weekend. All the birds are healthy as can be. Just gotta jam them up with feed. Some times, I prep my birds to not have any thing in them prior to flying as well. If that means a day's ration, so be it.
Thor
P.S. Every day feeding is what I usually practice.

When I do let my kit birds eat all they want one day the next day they still feel half full (like they feel with one spoon per bird) so I think doing it that way should be fine as long as they always have water.

first of all kopetsa, hunting is not a stupid sport. if theres too many of some creature, man has to keep the population to a normal level. if theres no hunting than there would be a million morning doves in town... that would cause chaos! there would be feces everywhere!!!!

Kop, you`ll feel different when you hit your first deer on the freeway, trash your car, and with a little luck no one gets hurt. ( except the deer )
Hunting is as much about population control as it is a seasonal way to provide food for some families. And, in most cases the meat is much healthier for you than any store bought meat. ---------- Butch @ Sundance Roller Lofts

Bigwilly there are times when I'm training my birds and I see there is a need to stop flying them because they have gotten too stiff flying or too high in they are in great condition ..what I do is rest them for a week or two get them lil fat and out of shape so they can fly lower feed all they want but at end of week which I will fly them again I don't feed for one or two days depending on how they look but all the while they have pro-vital in the water all day for those days they don't eat..what this does is gives their organs rest which they need..I also fast my dog every once in a while it is good for them. I see a big difference in my birds here they usually get it going on the second day more performance and with quality and I also notice that one time i gave them feed and they left it because they ate so much the days before..so it is not bad to fast your birds its good for them.I learn this from Graham Dexter.this is how he train his birds to get the best out of them.. ..
