ive noticed most ppls flyer cages r kinda small and the youngsters they fly r usually in small space but me i have a big cage or loft whatevers its called and the youngsters i fly have alot of space and can move anywhere actively does this affect them when i relase them to fly cause they got so much space????

I always have had small kit cages because of the room I have. But having them too big might be an issue as well. I think a 3x3x3 is plenty of room for a kit cage for 20 birds. My kit cages are 2'x3'x3' around. My friens kit cage is 6'x10'x8' around and his birds are always on the telephone wires. I think is because they have too much room to fly inside that they don't want to fly anymore. My birds as soon as I open the door they want to fly out but they fly out in till I flag them out.

How big is your kit cage? Do you have pictures of them?

get a copy of the Birmingham Roller Pigeon by William H. Pensom. Read it cover to cover and you will learn how to raise and fly rollers and how to house them.

I agree with Quickspin. I try to keep my boxs on the small side. Mine are 3ft wide x 3ft deep x 4 ft tall for twenty birds. The 11 bird boxs are smaller, and I try not to have to many extra perchs in a box.

I might be wrong but I believe our Roller brothers across the big pond do use larger boxs and do VERY well with them. Maybe someone from the UK can chime in on this subject???

I myself like smaller kitboxes for the reason it keep them close when let out kitting wise ,keeps them calm not flying all around like in big walk in loft wasting energy I use to fly out of them years back.. The old timers in the UK from what I read see a difference too .some use the smaller kitboxes for when its competition time..

Here is what Bob Brown had to say about kitbox when ask .
"Well I think I was the first to start the kitboxing business over here the theory is in my opinion that if you got them in a big open loft they tend to use their energy up flying about the loft but if you got them in the kitbox they'll give it all what they want and they come out"..

If you don't have a small kitbox fly your birds less often and they won't sit on the power lines. I learned this one as a youngster. Smaller box = more flying for that particular kit.

Rule #1: Don't build your loft anywhere near your wife's clothesline....
