If you have a club in your area by all means get to know those folks. But be careful as you meet new people not to be telling everyone you are wanting to buy birds at first and don't get in a big hurry. Be selective and be patient. If you don't have a loft or kit boxes work on them first and then do some research on what your looking for and find what's right for you. Most people are willing to help someone out that's serious about learning. Don't expect something for free but don't be in a rush for just anything. You can often get birds pretty quick but you will likely spend a lot of time with them so try to get a good start. Junk eats the same as top quality birds. It may cost a little more on the front end to get high quality birds but junk costs the same to maintain (feed, housing, etc.) than quality stock. P.S. This message is not knocking anyone's birds, just a word of caution. I realize you can also pay for a name brand of birds and not always be satisfied too. There's really no guarantee but of you can see them in the air you are at an advantage.
