Good job guys it was a pleasure being out there and seeing your birds. The time has come to lock them up no sense in self destruction, until next year and better luck next time.

Hey Edgar,
Spanky left me out...
Efren Lopez - 969.69 1.8 1.8
Just kidding, the 9a region lost a qualifier because a few of the flyer did not pay their NBRC membership dues so there went my spot... Wish they wouldn't of waited till yesterday to notify Spanky as I had been working real hard getting them ready, not to mention how many birds I lost in the process...

I think it's Bull Sh,,, That Efren got dropet. What some of those guys did, they flew the F/F without paying there dues,i bet if they whould have got a good score they whould have sent in their dues in time, that is selfish and inconcideret,at least the guys from the SGVS all came through till the last minute and sent in their dues nomatter what score they got, that means you can fly the F/F without beeing a NBRC member and if you DQ you dont have to send in your dues, only if your score is good,Thas BS I hope those people are banned from flying next year,, Hector Coya-SGVS

Hector we have to come up with a system to check a persons membership before even allowing them to fly if there not a member at the time of the fly they should pay for the fly and there dues at the same time. Congrats guys on a fly well done but the true winner in LA this year is the Dammmmmm BOP they are in high numbers and on the attack each one of the first two fliers today had two Falcons and they were all about eating.

Hector/List, When the Regional Directors send in advance registrations of their flyers, we are able to check the membership status and notify the RD of anyone who has forgotten to send in their dues before they fly, and that they must do so in order to participate. In regions who do not send us a list until scores are posted....any non-members who are discovered are disqualified no matter what score they posted. Tuff break Efren. You didn't deserve that and I know that Spanky is not happy with these men either. But the rules are plain in this regard and printed in the Bulletin for all to see. Good luck next year! Cliff

Cliff,
I understood the rules and I knew that there was nothing that I or anyone could have done. When Spanky called me there was nothing I could say as the members that flew know the rules and didn't follow them...
Not sure if I'll be flying next year or the years after, lost toooooo many birds and in tagging along with the LA guys today, all 4 flyers were attacked by falcons.
Here is a summary of the flys:
1st fly - Bennie Ford - A falcon hit the team at about 5 min in the fly, then another hit 5 min. later. They didn't take any that I know of but killed his fly.
2nd fly - Keith London - A falcon hit his team about 8 min. in and took one, then another falcon came and attacked the kit, a cooper and a Red Tail also paid him a visit. After we left, he called me and told me that another pair of Falcons were hitting his kit again.
3rd fly - Gary Terrell - Fed 5 birds to the coopers and falcons prior to our arrival, 1 min. into the fly another falcon came and hit his kit and drove them all down.
4th fly - Hugo Cuevas (Spanky) - He managed to get all 20 min. of flying time without any attacks. Soon after his fly a falcon came and hit his kit along with a Cooper that was no more than 5 feet above us.
So all in all, I'm not sure if I want to pay to participate in the Death Fly...lost around a kit of birds in prepping my team for the finals (4 days)...Falcons, Coopers, and Red Tails, poor birds..

On a side note Cliff, a few members that didn't pay told me that they never pay the NBRC dues and that there wasn't any issues before..?
Not a reason not to pay or follow the rules, but not sure why it wasn't inforced then? ---------- Efren Lopez SGVS http://lopezloft22.bravehost.com/

Efrin, Make sure that you work through your RD to get a rule change in.
Also make sure you vote for the name of the Fall Fly. A National Championship could be flown at any time. I would not have to be flown during the BOP migration.
Just my opinion

Efren, I can only speak for my three years as Fly Director. We have always verified the memberships of the flyers. As I said (Ken Firl), when we do it depends on when I get the names. By all means, you should make the EC aware of your position that the Finals fly timing is not working for your region. This issue is getting more attention each year. More and more regions are wanting the Finals moved to a more advantageous time frame. Bringing this before the NBRC EC is something more and more regions are talking about. But to move it a month or two earlier, you may run into more birds still in the molt. Many flyers are now thinking that the fall/winter months, are not the best time to fly our NBRC championship fly, so changing the name to National Championship would help open those doors. Getting all the regions together to agree on a better time frame is our best solution. It is hard for me to understand the resistance from the RDs on the Executive Committee to keep the fly as it is, when it just keeps getting worse every year. So many of our best birds get slaughtered every year. The BOPs are here and we can't deny it. But we must try to work around the worst of the hawk migrations, if our NBRC fly is to survive. Cliff

I think this is the worst time of the year to fly for comp. To many BOP and also bad weather. It should of been atleast 1-2month earlier. ---------- Good Game Loft

Hi Cliff,
I have always been told by previous Fall fly directors that the entrants names had to be submitted by the same due date as the money was due to national.
I understand from your ambiguous response that this is no longer the case.
Thanks for the clarification.
Paul fullerton - please note: entrants names are not due till the fly scores are posted.
Thanks,
Ken

Ken, It's a mistake to submit names of registrants that late, as Spanky found out, so I would not recommend that to Paul if I were you. Any flyers who are not members would not be discovered until after the scores were posted, which would result in their being disqualified an potentially eliminate one of your qualifiers.
If I used 100% correctness from the regions(as to what information is submitted and when) as my guide by which to conduct the fly, most regions would not get to fly. I ultimately get the info and the checks...... if I keep after everyone. RDs have a lot on their plate, as you know. If you ask the RD's about the info, it's usually a problem with a flyer who did not fill in all the blanks......or money promised and not yet delivered, etc. Most of our RD's are NOT used to needing secretarial skills. Often, it is a first time RD who forgot or didn't know how things were to be done. As I said before, the education of most out our RD's is passed down from the RD before him, and that varies significantly. If the previous RD left, moved, whatever and chose not to bring the new RD up to speed, it is learn as you go. There is no NBRC handbook as to how to fulfill the RD duties. Usually about the time he gets to doing almost everything right, he retires, quits, burns out, etc. How I choose to handle each individual issue is based on the situation, and through consulting with the NBRC President. And there are lots of different situations. You are welcome to do things differently, Ken.....strictly by the book. Why don't you submit your name as a potential for Fly Director next year? Paul is doing most all of the book keeping chores correctly, so don't start screwing things up. LOL! Cliff

Cliff,
I won't submit my name because I do not have anyewhere near the time I know it takes to do the job. Thank you for doing it, I know it takes huge amounts of your personal time away from other priorities.
I am not criticizing the way it is handled now, I am only getting clarification as to what is required.
Regards,
Ken

I think we need to have a list of payed members a month before the F/F next year,No late entries, otherwise its easy to say to the RD,ill send my check tonight, and if your score isnt that good you just dont send your dues. Just my opinion, Hector Coya-SGVS

Cliff and list,
Cliff did his job and had Bob send out a list of all paid members before the money was due, and I know that this was discussed in the EC about members being paid up....and Cliff sent out some emails saying the same....at that point I found that a couple of our fliers were not paid up. It is the RD's responsibility to check and make sure the fliers are all paid up....Enough notice and emails were sent out ahead of time....If an RD was not on the EC e-mail list...I suggest that you get in contact with Cliff and get on the list.
So...I sent out emails to all my fliers about being members and I called the ones who were not on my email list...I think I had 4 that were not paid up...one was me....LOL....so I paid for myself and another flier and the other two fliers paid themselves...so....Cliff did his job in sending out the list and it was talked about on the EC level prior to flying and it was also discussed on this site.
It sucks that this had to happen....but it happens....I have had this kind of thing happen many time in other competition type events and it sucks...but the strong will brush themselves off get back on the horse.
rock and ROLL
Paul
