Brudahpete Tom is a great guy, and will be happy to answer any questions you have. As I am just starting he has offered me birds, and advice. You can find his contact info at the Utah State Rollers Club Web address, under the members heading. https://home.comcast.net/~utah_rollers/
good luck

Thanks. I've heard nothing but good about Monson rollers. Someday, I'd like to end up with some.

Kooper is correct, Tom basically has 2 bloodlines. His older line is based on Pensom birds from Jim Gilespe in Boise Idaho. Gilespe housed a Pensom hen named Telstar. Telstar's progeny performed with great speed, tight and fast. Their weakness was poor frequency. The Frequency issue was overcomeable but had to be watched carefully. The other bloodline Tom has are birds from Jay Starley, also derivatives from Pensom via Hilton, J. Destout and others. Tom keeps relatively few pure Gilespe blooded birds and breeds more and more from the Starley birds. I have had birds from Tom, and have had mixed success with them. The Monson blood I still have is interbred. I too had Gilespe blooded birds from different sources, but am using Starley birds more and will eventually not have any pure blooded Gilespe. As noted above, Tom is the best source for info on what he has. He is generous with conversation and doesnt try to hide what he has or is doing with his rollers, just ask him, he will tell you.

Thanks for the info, I've heard that he's one of the masters when it comes to rollers. I'd sure like to pick his brain for a day!

Boy I cant agree more Tom is a great guy and will give you the info you desire.
I have some of his dads bellnecks very nice looking birds. Tom told me that they have not been flown for years so he did not know how they would do in the air. I keep them for the memories of them from my childhood. I did when I was younger "about 20 years younger" had several that were very nice spinners.
I went to Toms place for the World Cup flies and saw some nice spinners and also some nice spinning birds that were way deep.

Spinningdemon, My boys (12 & 14) would die to have a Thomas S. Monson bellneck in their loft! You know why. Wow, even if they didn't roll, to have an Icon's blood line would be something! You are a lucky guy.

I am indeed envious! I've got two boys who would love to get a crack at that line. Not to mention their old man!

Will take delivery from Tom Monson himself on Monday! My nephew will pick them up on his way home from Idaho. Tom is a class act & my boys are excited about their early Christmas presents! They are getting the loft ready for them every day after homework is done. Some real bonafied birds from one of the greats!

Hey, after wanting some of these for 20 years & coming up with an empty sack all the time, to get 'em from the originator of the line is a huge thing to me! Thanks to Jon (wishiwon2), Tom contacted me and was very gracious. There are still a few class acts left in this 'ol world! Yes, I'm grinning from ear to ear! And thanks David, when you come down this way, give me a heads up & I'll show off some of my stock.
