Happy Rememberance/Veterans day! I agree with Kel. on his statement 100%: "I personally respect those men and women and their reasons for going to fight, but cannot for the life of me understand WHY we have yet to learn that WAR is the real ENEMY"

Hey Fellas, we fought wars against Nazism, Communism and dictatorships. Political and social movements of one class dominating another while denying individual freedoms and liberty to the people.
When tyranny is the question, war is the answer. Ask Neville Chamberlain...

I put 20 years..1963-1983 and my Son is returning this week from his 2nd trip to North Bagdad..and this may sound trite..but "service" is a great thing and "we" enjoy serving. Tony is very correct..the only thing tyranny understands is a big stick. To those serving today, men and woman..we (I) salute you and send respect. Longroller

Hey Kel, here we go...when tyranny coalesces into a movement threatening life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness and good men do nothing to stop it...we either hang alone or we hang together.
These are not original words by me, but I agree with them. ---------- FLY ON! Tony Chavarria

Val, Easy brother! It takes all types of views to make the world go round. I don't always agree with everyones point of view but I usually try to see where they are coming from. My brothers in arms have always fought so that we could live in a WORLD(not just a Country) where folks were free to express themselves. Kel is expressing his opinion, so in his own way he is saying Thank You!

I have a friend in Connecticut who raises dogs for a living, makes over $150K a year, but doesn't kennel them. Her place is immaculate, her dogs are immaculate, she spends her whole day taking care of them, day after day. They are happy, clean, shiny, healthy. She can't stand the thought of them not being free, so they follow her everywhere she goes. I agree with her about penning them -- life in a cage or on a chain all the time would be horrible.
Because the dogs are allowed freedom, sometimes, if she is not paying close attention, they will get in an 'argument' and one will kill the one he is arguing with.
This makes her sad, because she truly loves each one (she has 50 of them), and then there's the financial loss.
Sometimes I think we're the same way. We have a land of freedom, can pursue our dreams, work hard, play hard, but we still wind up thinking negative thoughts instead of striving to be positive.
How in the world does a post about having a happy Veteran's Day and appreciating those who served turn into such negativity?
Are we truly like the dogs?
My grandfather always said that we are, somewhat.
Those of you who served and are serving, you definitely are appreciated. We owe you forever.

Nobody loves war, Kel, but if you read your bible, you will see that apparently, it is a big part of history. I would love to live in a fairy tale world, but I believe that life doesn't exist.
I'm all about turning the other cheek, but not when it comes to my family or my neighbor's protection or lack of freedom. War is sadly, frequently necessary.
If everyone (especially in the Middle East, including terrorists and kamikaze idiots) had your attitude, our idea of the fairy tale life might be possible, but I'm not sure that you could have the same attitude if you lost a family member in 9/11 or visited some of the countries under horrible dictatorships. Have you ever read the biography of Josef Stalin? Hitler?
Sometimes, war is necessary.
Ol' Grandpa also said that to not be part of the solution is to be part of the problem.

What Kel says is true. Unfortunately.
My niece went to France for a year of her high school (foreign exchange) and experienced the prejudice there.
I visited Italy last year, spent time with an Australian friend, and lots of folks were hateful because I was an American, but they treated my Australian friend with kindness and friendliness.
I have had people ask for money because their houses burned down, or their kid had cancer or some other major catastrophe in their lives. I usually send them money, as much as I can spare at the time, and I have noticed that after that, they seem to avoid me. When I helped some Katrina refugees, they vandalized my place and then cursed me in public because I didn't give more than I did to them. I guess it's human nature, but I do believe a lot of the animosity toward the US is related to not just our foreign policy, but it seems that when we help a nation, they turn on us. Kel, I don't believe the US deserves all the hatred aimed at us.

Laura,I appreciate your rational discussion ,but I really don't think world opinion of America is meant to be against the people as a whole.I have had,and continue to have many good relations with freinds in the US.I've lived short periods in the US and spent 9 years in Belize and Guatemala where many of my neighbours were patriot and ex-patriot Americans and for the most part got along fine with everyone.I think the main problem is the large US multinational companies exploitation of resources and peoples in other lands. For instance;Chiquita,Dole and Fyfe(United Fruit Company)pay workers in other countries slave wages to grow and harvest pretty fruits for us all to eat in our comfortable homes.I have talked to field workers who have told me if they left the fields when the crop dusters were spraying the trees with pesticides and herbicides, the fruit would not be picked on time. Many of these people have skin diseases and other health issues(not to mention the health issues of their children)due to being exposed to dangerous chemicals while at work.I know Colombian ex pats who had to flee their country in fear of losing their lives because they were being persecuted and threatened with death simply because they were organising and participating in union activities to gain a decent wage and working conditions under the employ of Coca Cola Inc.,and I'm only relating to you some instances I have either personally witnessed or been told of by people directly involved. The list could go on and on.These problems are out there and whether we want to put on blinders or not, they will not go away.. ---------- Kel. Kel, your examples aren't as much about Americans as they are about greed. Greed has no boundaries or borders. There are stories like that across the world, and the US has actually stepped in to stop situations like that.
This thread has already lost its identity.
It was originally about appreciating our veterans. I do. We all do.

I am looking forward for piece and prosperity and I am sure that many others feel the same way. What Kel was stating is just a sample of what others around the world think of us. That was not as bad before the Bush administration with the go it alone mentality.
If only muscles can rule, then you will find allot of nuclear perforation for deterrent. However, war is evil but necessary.
