I got a 07 Cock and 08 Hen from a friend that I would like to pair up and breed from. How do I do it??
I am currently in the process of building some nest fronts for my nest boxes and some Larger nest boxes as well.

If you have anything you can place them in, Like a show cage or something along the lines, Rollers pair up real quick, Couple days and then you can place them back. Place them in the garage if you can on the counter top. ---------- Tony.

TT would I keep them seperate for a few days and put a divider up so they can't see eachother? Then a couple of days later put them together?
Is it safe to keep birds in the garage?? Don't you think they will not like having fresh air and being able to see day light lol??

Game, I would just put them together, Ive never had a problem having them in the garage, Its only a couple days, But they do need a little light though
Even if they are paired, and another hen gave into him, Is natural, It happens.
What you can also do, Is leave them in the loft, the nest boxes the cock has dominated take some mesh and staple it around the opening of the nest box and leave them in there, Have a top corner unstapled so you can give fresh water and feed. ---------- Tony.

Ya bro, the whole purpose is to mate them lol, forced mating. No need to separate them.

lol well I heard you gotta first isolate the male and female for a couple of days so they can't see eachother and then put them together in the same cage lol....

Game, Your friend set you up with a very nice pair. They are just like my foundation pair, they are smith/plona.The character is alittle strong on both birds. You will get blue checker badges, dark blue checker w/f and mixtails, blue bars and bluebar w/f,and of course dark blue check selfs. You will also get alittle more heat on the badge side.Always follow the roll quality, speed, depth, control, but if I had my druthers about me,I would watch for a oddeye badge cock,or even better a blue checker beard w/f off spring to put back on the badge hen,They will throw you blue checker beards w/f,blue checker badges and piebalds, blue bar badges, blue checker wctf and mixtails. That will loosen up the character and give you more frequency.Try not to let the youngsters get in to strong fly condition, maintain a butter fly action on the wing or it could retard to development of the roll and push it back a season or two.Winds that make them go high or hold them down and push them around can get them as strong as racing homers.Feed them accordingly to the winds and the weather, above all keep that butter fly wing action, its condusive to rolling.Hope this helps, sorry for rambling....Aloha,Todd

Game, When you are starting out you just have to pair them up and see what you get. All talk of best to best, not doubling up on minor faults is meaningless. You just don't know. That is why it takes time and patients to build a family. You only know what you are breeding from after you pull birds that you have seen fly. You know what there strengths and weaknesses are. Then and only then you can start making informed decisions on how to pair them up.
Have fun with them Keith Maxwell
