I have heard alot of good things about them and purchased a kit and 5 pair of breeders. I have my own birds already, and am going to have to part with some of each strain. I have been told that the birds I got are very fast, frequent and 15-30 feet. i was told this by the breeder and another fellow who has them. I do trust that these are as stated. I am just trying to research the strain so I can get an idea overall of what traits they tend to have. My research has come up with little information. Any help is greatly appreciated.

lipper The best thing to do is fly them. If the older birds are proven stock birds put them back together and raise some young ones to fly. If the older birds are not proven stock birds, but birds that are just old enough to breed, fly them to. Its the fastest way to find out what You have. Even people that have the same family of birds, don't have the one's you have. The best bird You breed this year could be the nest mate to worst bird You breed this year. Air test them, its the fastest way. Best of luck with them, I've only heard good things about that family................

Lipper..extremely good advice...fly, fly, fly...for it will save you time and feed. A bad one eats as much as a good one. A question perhaps to ask the breeder, if he can/will answer correctly is "what is the % of good 20 foot high velocity spinners do you get per year?" If you get over 20% and under 60% you probably have a fairly honest person you are dealing with and a decent family to work with. (I would lean closer to the lean side rather than the fat (60%) side.

Thanks for all the advice guys...I have been very lucky this year in the birds I have been able to obtain. The Hardesty birds I got pedigrees all go back to the 70-80's stock 11750 and 7412 and then one old cock a 92 bird that is directly off of 842 (91) This is the Indigo Badge that Carl introduced into his line in 1991.
The other line I got go directly back to 514. I purchased these birds from John Underberg in Iowa and got the kit he flew in the cup this year. I actually was there and watched them. We had 50 mile an hour winds that day and he still placed. Underberg got the 514 line from John White also from Iowa. It was great to see guys at the fly that I had not seen since the early 90's like Jon Johnson and Dave Gerhke.
Thanks again for the replies, I know I am always interested in what folks are doing with their birds..I will post my progress good or bad. I will say I am very optomistic thus far.

Long Roller,
The breeder was very knowledgeable about his birds, as we went through his lofts he would just grab a bird and start talking about it's history. He told me that he really liked 50% of the birds he raises and that he would not be ashamed to show them to anyone. He said that most are 15-35 feet and so fast you dont want to blink. Told me he has some lazy ones if you dont wear them down. Said he has a cock in the breeding loft that only rolls 5 feet. He told me he had a hen with no cock so he put them together to use as fosters, let them raise one round and 20-30 ft. and again very fast.
He said his rolldown problems are only in the first month of starting to roll, and then they come out of it. I think he was probably pretty staight with me.
By the way, I met him at a club show I was judging. He took a first place in Old Cock, Old Hen, and Young Cock. I later heard one guy owned 3 of the birds I placed. I then met the fellow and this is where it started. These are a really nice little typey line of bird.

I had birds from Hardesty/Roe for couple of years and I loved them. Most of my birds were directly from Joe Roe ( had his bands on them) and they were very good. Unfortunatly I went in different direction and had to get rid of all of them, but would recomand them to anyone. VERY GOOD QUALITY BIRDS..... ---------- N/A Loft

Did you get your birds directly from Hardesty himself! This family has been selected and deselected and over selected by the fancier breeders. It doesn’t mean that because we say Hardesty birds, they are of excellent quality. I have seen Hardesty birds that are top notch and I’ve seen garbage. The breeder who you got your birds from would be the only one to show you what his birds can do in the air. If you are happy of what you see, then you are way ahead.

J-Star,
There are actually two guys involved with the birds I have. An older fellow who now lives in a retirement home and cant keep them. So they are at the younger fellows. He has never sold a bird from his loft before me, luck of the draw or he took pity on me, I dont know..I have the pedigrees, these birds were originally purchased from Carl. No outside birds have ever been introduced to them other than the Indigo cock that Carl added himself, and I have a 13 year old direct son to that bird. The Indigo that Carl added was (91) #842, there is no further info. on this bird 842.

J Star.... I have to agree with you on this one. If you remember when you introduced me to the ROLLER Hobby back in 2004. I did get some Hardesety/Roe birds from the guy that won the FLY that spring.. But, my experience with them over the past 4yrs was not what I cared for. Not as frequent and shallow in depth. Iam not saying that this family in not good. It all depends on your experience, knowledge of rollers and your location. By the way Iam in Ohio.
Lipper...As far as 50 mph winds.......I find that hard to believe. I don't know of anyone in their right mind would turn loose a kit of rollers with winds that STRONG...... ---------- Fly High and Roll On Paul
