I know the W.C fly is right around the corner but ive herd in the past there was somthing inbetween,, Maby this is the wrong time to ask as most people are getting it handed to them as far as flying..I just want to stay on top of the ball as far as my participation in any and every fly withen reason... No, it isn't a rumor. Since no one would do anything other than wish and discuss, I am determined to make this happen, particularly since the FF here has pretty much turned into a shambles. I have the rules and details out to particular individuals who are routinely involved in flys and am waiting for responses from them and who they sent the package out to. I can post them here but it will be long and dry for some people.

Paul, this will be a true state fly, not exclusive to only FF and WC winners. I can post the fly policy I created here, but it is a long read. Think national fly for the state only and flown at a time when it is more appropriate for everyone.

BA,
What do you mean by, "particularly since the FF here has pretty much turned into a shambles..." Just so you know, the NBRC had more sparticipants than ever before, in this year's National Championship...we split up more regions than in any year before....and we stand to make a significant profit this year. Does that sound like "a shambles" to you? If you are speaking of the timing of the fly being at the worst possible time, then I agree with you. But we will not be presenting and discussing any options until this year's fly is completed and the National Champions have been announced. I think a Calilfornia state fly is a great idea, personally. Every state should have one.

Yes Cliff my comments were in regards to the timing of the FF. While many years ago it was okay here, it has progressed to the point of just flat out ridiculus. Nearly every finals kit flown in our region and adjacent regions was hit by one or more BOP during the judging, or ravaged so much during any attempt to prep them for the finals that they flew defensively. The results are many. One is people are finally saying "screw it" and not going to fly the FF anymore because they lose too many birds leading up. Then if they do qualify, they lose more and as we have seen so much lately, and can't put up a good kit to compete as a result. The scores don't reflect what the kit really could have or should have scored. An effort to avoid losses during qualifying means flying in the heat of August..and the molt. This means not being able to really put up a good kit. The times have changed and unless the FF becomes a fly of another season, it isn't fair for all involved nor do the best kits by the best flyers do well. Flying the finals here in Oct/Nov while used to be okay, is a total blood sport now.

I feel your pain BA. I hear it all the time. It would be interesting to know the total number of excellent birds...the best in the country...that we slaughter every year in the name of the friggin' "Fall Fly".

So if your region had its choice of flying any time of the year, when would you fly? It would be a very positive thing for you guys to develope a list of each region in California, and what week in the year would be the best for each to fly its best birds......in the safest air....and in the best condition.

Cliff, every region will have a different time frame they believe is best suited for them to have the best chance at truly displaying their kit's worth. 10 years ago the best time to fly here locally was November. The birds were out of the molt, the weather was cooled down, the cooler weather meant the feed adjustments had a greater controlling effect, etc. There were few predator problems then. Our club fly season used to be from Oct through June. We can't fly now until April at the soonest.
You asked me specifically so I would say for me and our area here which includes the greater so cal area, May and June are by far the best months to fly here. We have the June Gloom overcast for the first half of the day which means high humidity which in turn helps with frequency over all. Every year our best club flys are always May and June. Always. The number of good kits flown triples in those months. And for most people the predators have moved on or if not, the attacks are minimum at best. There are some exceptions.
