i was wondering if you guys think that roller could actually survive in the wild/city?? like regular feral pigeons.?? what if someone had lost a pair of rollers and they somehow found a way to survive..(food water etc).do you think its possible ??

Absolutely. Especially in the cities where there is a sizable group of fanciers. Rollers will even tag along with a bunch of commies that fly by. Matter of fact, I've probably lost more rollers to commie flybys than to BOP.

i have this commie/feral that i had taken from the streets when it was young and placed it into my loft..(something to keep me busy when theres alot of bop in the area..when i cant fly rollers) and i homed it.. it was a pretty good homer..for a feral..its a female..blue checker..but now its not returning...i homed it from like at least 10 miles and it came all the way back home..(it was like 1 month ago)..shes been gone for 2 days now..i think she ready to mate and i dont have any males that are old enough to mate ..so i guess she found a true wild feral now..kinda suck..i thought about all thoses feed i wasted on her!!!!!! haha

Commies can be a real pain in the butt, when I see too many hanging around I lock down & put one of my culls in a trap cage with a lot of feed in plain sight to attract the commies, you can trap a ton that way. I used to sell commies to bird dog trainers for retrieving training when I was a kid.

how much did you make?? i was thinking about that too lol..but its not a good deal because i only get a 4 dollar profit out of each bird..sucks but its ok..i sometime enjoy commies..like really early in the moring just watch them fly..

Mines been here for four months, and still hasnt left,
He has left for a couple days then returns.

Growing up I used to get $25 bucks for a box of 6 commies,
Man i was under bridges, abandoned buildings, and every Friday night after school i would fill a hockey bag full,
and of to the auction Saturday morning. I made a killing at 8 years old lol.

But now i dont have the heart to do that.

It's funny how many guys get into the pigeon hobby through commies! There were four regular customers that would buy 5 or 6 birds from me a month. at one time I had 200 commies in my dad's grain room of the milking barn! I rarely made more than $2 a bird back then but in the 70's and 8- 10 years old, $2 was a ton of money!

THISROLL....anything is possible. I personnelly think they could survive..... But, their are alot of varibales that would have to come into play.

I live in the country and have alot of barn pigeons (ferals)out here. When I fly my white homers, many time they will pick up several of these barn pigeons. They will fly with my birds for sometimes up to an hour. But when I call my birds in....the barn birds just fly off......back to where they came from. This happens at least once a week .

yes they will survive ,there is 6 club members that live with in 3 miles of each other and all have lost birds not only to the BOP .we have seen banded rollers at the local baseball park flying with the commies and at the gray hound bus station also flying with a group of commies.

When I was a kid I kept a spool of kite string on the handle of my bike, I was on the hunt for rollers all the time this was in like 1983. I would watch flocks of commies and look for the roller and believe me there were alot on the beach and in the parks. The wernt only rollers all typs of fancy pigeons also. The best on i caught took me about a week but it woul bust my eye every time comming withen feet of hittting an stopping every time. I finally got the bird and it had a name band, from what i rember it said either Kevin or Kieth "Super Star Super Roller's", the main thing was not the name but the "Super Star Super Roller's" that still stands out for me as I havent seen that band in my adulthood..

Yea thats crazy,, who ever that guy was he had some good stuff. Just think of how many good breeders are in L.A, I mean if you were smart you wouldent have to spen a dime ... Just catchum off the street,, and if was a valuable pigeon to the breeder you can barter to give it back,,unless it was a close Bro,,,LOL Ill have a week or so off in the next month,,, So Silver watch out!!! Ill be posted off the 105 lookin to come up...LOL kite string and all....
