I guess this question goes out to the guys that are using this strategy,
I want to know if these affect the bids negative in anyway,
Slowing down Breeding, Stress,etc,
Thanks for the input

Tony,
I use individuals but only till the first eggs are laid to make sure the pair is mated well, then they are freelofted. They are good if you have a problem cockbird that wants to disturb another pair's nest.Mine are made of wire and they are sure alot easier to clean than wood ones.Sometimes I put cardboard in between them to give the birds more privacy.

Tony....Iam here in Ohio. I use both systems individual and open loft. Like Kel says I keep them in the individual pens until the "second" egg is laid. Then I open up the doors. This way I know for sure who belongs to who.....lol.

Some birds like the individual pens better. They like the privacy....

Lots of people do keep their breeders in indis. It is a matter of personal preferance.I like to see my birds at least have loft freedom.

Individual breeding boxes.

I use individual breeding cages and they are in there own cage for roughly 5 months. I do not allow birds to breed in a open loft unless it is at the end of the breeding season and I haven't broken the birds up into cocks and hen. I do use a open loft for my foster birds. But as for the breeders its a 48" wide by 18" tall by 24" deep. Next year I plan on having 13 new individual breeding pens they will be a lot bigger then the ones I'm using now. They will be 4' wide 12' deep and 6'6" high I'm converting my gamefowl flight cages for individual breeding cages. I will post some photos this spring once I'm finished.

I have some 30+ individual breeding pens for my 9 familys of rollers. I also have a couple of 4-6 pair lofts that I put just the cocks of one family that I have air-selected and mated to particular hens..sometimes of the same family, sometimes not, but I want the blood for the cocks family. I prefer the individual pens as you are 100% sure. I did an expermint with Volga Tumblers..they are yellow and white and red and white. I put a pair of Andalusian birds in there..and had 3 nests of Andalusian babys..Hummmmmm. Open loft. If I am adament about a pair..individual pen!!

Definately gotta keep breeds and strains separate but if the performance is there and yer not worried about colour,go for it.Betcha at least 7 out of 10 yer not gonna have em whorin' round.

i keep mine in individual cages about 2'x2'x2 with a small feeding box and they have their own water supply with a nest bowl and i keep them in there till the breeding season is over then i will separate them for 2 maybe 3 months in open cages hens in one cage cocks in the other but i will not fly them.then its time to pair them back for another round.i have 2 other open cages for experimenting with the kit birds if i like what comes out i will send them to the breeding cages.

Thanks for the info,
I just bought a 10 x 12 shed, and just wanted to know what route im going to take, Ive decided to split it in to two lofts, on side for the fosters and they other made into separate breeding compartments.

hi tt
the only way to g/tee wat u are breeding is individual
my boxes were 48 x 24 x 24 i or my wife would let each pair out for about 1 hr so they could fly in the loft n have a bath so they all get out individually over 2/3 days n at weekends it is easyer

NEVER BELIEVE THE PARENTAGE OF BIRDS BREED IN A OPEN LOFT
A PEDIGREE AINT WORTH THE PAPER IT IS ON IF THE BIRDS ARE NOT
IN INDIVIDUAL BOXES
