The color I don't know, If the bird is not old enough it will not be ready to breed.

Looks like a hen to me but by looking at them you are no 100% sure. Separate the bird in a cage by it self for 3 days. Then put a 2 year old cock and see the results.

I have never had any problem finding what gender they are when they are around 1 year old. Before then it's not wort breeding as it has not proof it self yet in the air.

It looks like a red check, badge with white flights to me. as far as sex, does it have any black tick marks in the tail feathers or or wings. If so Probally a cock,if not a could go either way.
Good luck

Shes a dun lavender badge. Spread, ash-red, carrying bronze and possibly one gene for recessive red. Nice bird.

if u got a open loft breeder cage put the bird in it an watch 2 see if the cocks go after it,if so its a hen if they dont 2 much bother it he a cock. i have bread birds 6 & 7 months old! another thing is the bird mite not be mature yet so u have 2 put it in a indivisual cage with another bird an let it sit, an it will mature faster!!!

Jerry,

Badges are rollers with white markings about thier head, but not baldheaded. It is an expression of a pied gene. Lavender is spread factor on ash red, just as black is spread on blue/black. Spread is a factor that "spreads" the base color over the whole bird. On a blue/black it makes it black on ash red it makes it a slate grey "ashy" color. Spread covers pattern; check, bars or barless. Ash red and blue/black are both considered "hard colors".

I think Thom is close on the color of your bird. A ash red based bird, with spread and perhaps a single factor of recessive red or bronzing. Dun is a genetic term meaning the dilute form of blue/black. Many roller guys use it as a descriptive term because it appears a similar color as 'dun'. I dont think your bird is genetically dun.

As for the results of the mating; it depends on the homozygosity of each parent, or whether they carry 1 or 2 genes for spread. You will definately have the potential for blacks and lavenders with and without white flights and badge markings. You may get some patterned birds checks or bars in both ashred and blue/black. Some may show bronze as well. It is also a sex linked mating meaning the male offspring should be ash base with black tics in flights and/or tail. Any ash based hen offspring will not be ticked.

There are lots of good websites that describe and define genetic terms and colors for pigeons and describe potential outcome of matings. Search "pigeon color genetics for fanciers"
