Gentlemen, My name is Joe Beach and I live in Leavenworth Kansas. I discovered this site a couple of weeks ago, have been reading the threads and decided to become a contributor. I am 62 years old and am now retired. I spent 22 years in the Army as an Infantryman and Aviator and then worked for a large aerospace company for 20 years. I have been raising and flying Birmingham Rollers for the past 26 yrs. I fly a family that I have developed from birds that originated from Paul Vaughn. I have noticed that some threads on this site become quite emotional for some. Seems like color evokes a high level of passion in some flyers. Color is one of the subjects in pigeon genetics that have always interested me. Before you get the wrong idea, I breed for velocity and style and take whatever color I get but I am interested in what genetic factors make pigeons manifest particular colors and patterns. Nick Siders is correct, Rollers only come in Ash Red, Blue and Brown, everything else is the result of modifiers such as grizzle, indigo, dilute, etc.

Welcome Joe! Color has fascinated me as well. Studying genetics and the way they work, we all know that given free range, almost all pigeon breeds over a few generations will revert to the Rock Dove. The whole business of breeding for whatever trait is absolutely fascinating.

Welcome! And thank you for protecting us in those years of service. My friends are in the armed forces themselves.
With respect to colors I believe people here don't emphasize that much because they are into flying performance. In other words performance is first, color perhaps is second. I have no problem if you want to accomplish both.
