When the young have tail feathers about 1 1/2" to 2" long, I put them on the floor and the cock will feed them until they eat on their own. If you leave them in the nest, the parents may try to get them out so they can lay more eggs.

Do you have fosters? A lot of times, others will take over. I like 20-21 days though, pigeons are really sociable & take care of each other rather well. You may have to be the foster in this case but you can try to have a couple of non-stocks birds take over.

I`ve slipped in a young bird or two for various reasons to anouther pairs nest. I usually do it at night in the dark. Be sure to watch them close for a day or two as sometimes there is a smaller one who will get pushed out of line at feed time.
Also, consider whether this is a pair you want to breed from again. Bad parents might pass that trait on the the young who might be bad parents if they make it the the stock.

Butch is right I don't breed from birds like that unless the youngsters show me that they are good producers than I do breed them but using foster all the time..

Rick, I am not sure if another pair will adopt a bird. Most are not going to feed another bird in a seperate cage unless it is very young and just hatched within a few days but if you had a community loft then the cocks will sometimes feed other chicks.
I would put it on the bottom of the cage on a wood plank if wire cage and see if the cock will continue to feed it their. If you have a small cage and the brids cannot fly up and down to the nest then you have a problem.
For the future, You should have a nest box that is at least 16 inches long so you can put two nest bowls in the nest box at each end. OR have two nest boxes in the pen for each pair. The hen wants to lay another set of eggs or already has and some birds will peck at the squeakers before they have time to leave the nest, while others will lay eggs in the corner of the box and still tolerate the young in the nest.
I had one pair this past year that had two squeakers with feahters not yet ready to leave the nest and two in another nest with pin feathers coming out and darn if she didnt lay eggs again in the corner of the pin feathered birds and was sitting on two eggs. I pulled the eggs out and threw them away since the pin feathered birds and the other two were just too much for one cock to handle. This pair was in a individual cage with two nest boxes.
Live and learn with these birds. Bill C

I never had a problem adding a youngster to another nest. I don't have to wait til night to do it either. The parents WILL adopt the youngster with no issues.

However, if the original parents refused the youngster, it could be just an isolated issue. If they continue this behavior, then that is an issue. usually when the birds get medicated they become restless and refuse to feed their young. Certain medication does that. If the birds were keept breeding during the molt and very stressed, they will do that also. Just keep that in mind.
