I have some of Pennys old blood..20 years ago I believe, via a friend of mine in Idaho. The birds I have are very typie..small, short, high quality of feather medium muscle, tight...they roll very quick, frequent from 10-20 feet. This family here (Northwest) is made up of reds and blues with a white flight upon occasions. The homing ability is very very high. One hen I received flew 30+ miles home after excapeing at a lawn show when she was but 6 months of age. She has produced some fine short spinners for me.

I am going to try to contact Mr. Penny...My friend got Penny birds in the mid-70's while he lived in Cirtrus Heights. I suggest these were prior to Penny trying to go dual-purpose which may be the reason folks now do not particularly like his birds..My birds are small, short, full of attitude, and spin 10-20 feet with velocity and frequency.

I just finished a great conversation with Mr. Penny. A very interesting man and quite knowledgeable. He did not attempt the dual purpose bird and actually quit the PRC when several of the leadership started down that road. In 1978 he got quite sick and went to the hospital for several months. While there, friends (?) came and helped themselves to all of the best he had. To date, he "has not gotten back to the quality he had prior to the hospital stay." I look forward to more conversations with Mr. Penny..a fine gentleman.
