Well here goes..Their Whittingham blood is from Birmingham area of England..Imported from 1897-early 1900's by McAree of Toronto Canada, Casperson of R.I. USA, and others. Rev. James Graham lived next to McAree in Canada; they worked the Whittinghams (named after the man in England who sold the family of birds to McAree and others). McAree died, Graham took 20 pair (the best he said) to the U.S. as he was pastoring a new church. In his bunch, was a red mottle (broach) cock he named Fireball. Fireball got lost shortly thereafter..the family of birds that Graham had were called the Fireball Family..Whittingham blood. They fly differently than your comp. bird..generally longer cast..fly longer, and often roll deeper but also less frequency at times. All these discriptions vary. Three or four fanciers in the U.S. are "hard core" Fireball breeders and flyers and they keep the familys clean and have built up some good birds. As a whole, they are a late maturing family and stable. 1-2% rolldowns. Hope this helps..it is a thumbnail sketch of a great family of birds.

Birmingham rollers originated in Birmingham England. Whittingham lived there as well as Pensom did much later. Both got there birds from that piece of geography. Whittinghams have been around since about 1860..Joe Quinn's books (2 in the set) "Search for the Fabulous Whittinghams".

CV and Rottweiler..do a little history digging..these are not, I repeat not, comp. birds..most guys do not keep them except for some personal enjoyment, but are a favorite of the backyard flyer. Whole different breed of cat..but still a strong roller. Aprox. 4 years ago to the month, I personally started the recent upsurge of the Fireball family. I started it on this site, Tony can verify it. After 4 years, this grand old family has made a strong recovery due to places like this site that give space for folks that like to breed this type of bird. I am appreciative of this site for allowing the resurrgance of this family. I have personally raised this family since 1957, and resurrected it in the past 10 years with some original blood. At present I have two familys of Fireball birds and four familys of Whittinghams. If you have any questions, perhaps you will feel free to contact me, and I can help. I do not have all the answers, but more than most. rkandbk1@yahoo.com or 509-786-4097. This is not an advertisment to sell birds, but simply to impart some information to you gentlemen that have questions. Thank you for reading...Bruce Kuhlman
