Why is it that when you ask Questions about certain/pass Pigeons you get some Folks upset/angry/smart remarks etc, etc?? when ur just doing research on certain Birds. We as humans not suppose to talk Pigeon HISTORY on certain Pigeons?Because we're not in that circle or Flying COMP We just suppose to not ask? Lamont, the best thing you should do is ask the guy you got the birds from and I do not think it is a COMP thing....LOL

You are supposed to ask questions thats how we learn any person upset about a question has just forgotten where they came from. Not every person knows everything the first day they bring home thier birds.
We all started somewhere and with out questions we will not progress.

Lets help the new fliers and not discourage the new fliers if you do not want to answear a question dont but please for the sake of the hobby do not answear in a mean or negative way.

If you dont have anything nice to say, dont say anything.

I agree that if you don't ask, you'll never know. That's what I appreciate about this site. Yeah, people all come in different packages, helpful. spiteful, jealous, rude, kind; you get 'em all here. I've found that most are helpful especially when you are really serious about the hobby. No question is dumb.

Lamont - There are lots of guys who may help you but I concur that the breeder of the bird is the best place to start if at all possible. If not then go to the second source of information. Also, there are many times when birds are gotten rid of by mistake and the breeder may not have understood the full potential of a bird. A couple of years on one or two hens does not mean the bird is not great. You may put it on something and voila!

The way i see it redchecker16, there are to many haters in this game of pigeons and that's why we can't come together. Some guys put down other people to elevate themselves. For exmple, some guys on this public post will put down another mans pigeons or him and to me that's totally disrespectful. Especially when they themselves have not put any time in themselves to evaluate a family of pigeons. One guy on this site said that one family of pigeons were only good for the show pen. This same guy had a bird of this same family that produce on several of his other birds.so does he hate the birds or dislike the man. You would have to question his motive. I would have to say that most of us have good birds,it just depends on what the individual wants out of a family of birds and how much time he is willing to work with it.
I'll bet the old timers didn't abuse each other verbally the way we do. They were gentleman and we should be same.If you don't like something, keep your negative point of view to yourself and if you can't say anything positive keep your mouth closed.

If you ask a question, you will likely get a variety of answers. Some will sugarcoat and some won't! Just because some won't, doesn't mean they are attacking you either! Kinda like being in school, some teachers weren't very good at their jobs and then there were always a few that just had the gift and could explain and make things interesting!

Got to thicken up the ole skin to hang around these sites very long! LOL

All valid points guys, but...... everybody here knows that one must gain experience in their own loft. You can learn a lot here but trial & error and patience are your best teachers. I would recommend that when you're starting out, try to find a local mentor (probably the one you got your birds from) & he'll generally help you. There's nothing like spending an hour or so with a seasoned fancier.

I started out as a 5 year old with a brother & sister, now 35 years later, I'm still learning! We lost about every bird we started with but learned & fixed what we knew didn't work. You're gonna fall down a couple of times when you're learning to walk, just be patient & let yourself learn. Just my 2 cents.

I wasted a lot of time trying to get those Birds from Dick S. (rip) to roll.
I only got one good Bird and Coyote has it now.

The Birds I got from Dick were good looking Birds and were better for the show pen .

The Novice

George

What motive Daryll ?
I simply stated my expierience with the Birds I got from Dick (rip) . I got 10 pair and i did get some that rolled but the % was very poor.

I never said the Birds are Junk they just were not the kind of Birds that I would put time into .I WANNA SEE SPIN and lots of it.

I did get that one Cock Bird that was a good breeder but 1 out of 20 breeders and I cant remember how many kit Birds , but it was over a Hundred.

Any way if you are happy with the Birds you got from Dick are good then that is all that matters, but for the record I dont have any motive .

as far as not saying anything if a person dont have anything good to say , well I wish someone would have told me the type of Birds I was spending my hard earned money on , instead of just letting me spend my cash and a few more years to find out that those Birds were not the kind of Birds that I was looking for.

I did not get offended Daryll I just wanted to state my position.

For the record I was never upset with Dick over the Birds , I am a adult and am responsible for whatever decisions I make or made in the past.

Been there George!

Just devastating when you realize that you've been wasting a lot of time and money for nothing! I didn't hold that guy responsible, but I was damn mad at myself for being a sucker! LOL

i think that this is a good site to find out the owner of a bird..look there were so many strays and somehow most of them got back to their original owner..this site is also great for band#/info because were are all located each in like everystate, town, citys etc..theres gotta be somebody that know him/her..

I think some people that have experienced birds getting stolen are a little suspect of questions about birds heritage on this site. Seems odd that the person you got them from couldn't tell you more. I realize sometimes they do come second hand, but the person you get them from should be able to tell you something. On the flip side some people don't want to give credit to the people that make up the background of their birds, so they just say they are their own strain. I'm not one thas has experienced this personally but this is my gut feeling.
