We didn't hear about this on the weather channel -- what a shocker! We almost NEVER see snow here on the Gulf Coast in Texas, but what a wonderful surprise!
The birds flew high and long this morning, unsure of their ability to come in with the windy conditions, but most of all, not sure about that white, fluffy roof!
When they did come in, I wondered if their feet were going to freeze, because they landed and acted like they froze instantly in place.

Nice slide show thank you for sharing. Snow is pretty common in my neck of the woods. Utah best snow on earth! ---------- David Curneal

Those are actually beautiful pictures! Love your place. Your birds match the color of the snow as well.
At my place, when you look around, all you see is someone else's house wall. And you can hear what people are talking about in their own house.

Thanks, Val. That's ironic, isn't it, Paul? lol Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know, Andrew! We're weenies here when it comes to snow. A drunk ran off into the ditch that night and actually beat on my window to wake me up. I don't know how he escaped having his pants torn off by my dog (who has bitten my a/c man, my cousin, the neighbor . . ), but if he had walked onto the porch, he wouldn't have! When I came to the door, he pointed to the truck and asked me to tow him out, but I declined because I am strongly opposed to drunk driving! ---------- -- Laura Professional Thrill Seeker

Thanks, Rod, Chewy, Mario -- my dad left this place to me and I am grateful. I never got to know him very well (I had a very jealous stepmother) and he died young (54 years old) of liver cirrhosis . . . I'd actually give it all up to do life over and get to spend time with him.
I worked for a law firm downtown Houston for years, but we disbanded in 1992, and I have used this place to make my living since then.
Occasionally, I write for a magazine or newspaper, and here is my latest, hope you enjoy (and read between the lines -- that your health is your most valuable and precious commodity in your life!): -------------------- This afternoon a rain storm caught me while I was setting out hay for the cattle, and after I parked the tractor, soaked to the bone, I jogged to the house and took a hot shower to warm up, and when I glanced at the clock, I realized that I had 15 minutes before the post office closed. I needed to ship a package with my homemade rum balls in it to friends in Connecticut, so I threw on dry clothes, grabbed my boots off of the front porch and jumped in the truck. When I got to the post office, I jumped out and ran inside where it was nice and warm. I live in a small town, so there was only 3 or 4 people in the whole place, and normally, they are a friendly sort. This day, they glanced sideways at me and took a few steps away, like I had the plague! As I laid my money on the counter to pay for the shipping, a peculiar odor wafted up from the floor around me, and suddenly, I remembered last night . . . This time of year, the sun sets early so I frequently find myself riding after dark in the pasture. The night before, right at dusk, I had ridden to the very back to the edge of the woods, with my dogs following me, when I glanced down and saw a small, black furry creature right at my horse's feet. I guess you could call it 'reverse' spook, because my horse stayed perfectly calm while I was terror-struck, suffering hyperventilation and heart palpitations. This creature had a very distinctive white stripe down his back, and his jet black fur stood on end, evidence that he was infuriated. I willed myself to calm down and not snatch my horse in a way that would cause him to rear, spin or dump me on top of Pepe Lepew, and I finally pushed him around with leg pressure and urged him to flee. Pepe Lepew actually chased us for a few yards, and as I looked back, I saw my Aussie, not understanding the danger and just trying to be friendly, 'talking' to the little angry troll, nose to nose. I could smell the trouble brewing in the air and wondered if any had gotten on me, and was I going to have to find my dog a new home? Apparently, this afternoon, what I smelled in the post office was my lovely riding boots, which must have had skunk spray residue settle on them from the air the night before. I was so embarrassed . . . . . . but . . . I still say that if being sprayed by a skunk on a beautiful night in the company of my sweet dogs while riding a magnificent horse is the price I pay to be healthy and free, I am grateful beyond mere gratitude. I will gladly choose Pepe Lepew's wrath over the smells of a hospital room ANY day! -- Laura Kidder, Two-Year Appendix Cancer Survivor!!

Ok. so there was this 75 year old widow that my dad & I had been checking on for our church when I was about 14. She lived in an old quonset hut army barracks that had been converted into a home for her. The crawl space happened to be uncovered and a skunk took up residence under the house. She called my dad before leaving to work one morning & asked if we had a trap to get rid of the skunk. So I took the box trap up to her house and found her swinging the skunk around her head, slamming it into the corner of her house! Naturally, the skunk had passed, he had passed & passed all over the widow! She had been sprayed in the eyes & was blind for a few hours! Her daughter showed up to take care of her as I disposed of the critter.
I asked her what possessed her to grab the skunk by the tail like that & she told me that she worried that I wouldn't get there in time. So that's one story!

Ohmigosh -- that's incredible. That's one of those stories that people talk about the truth being more interesting than fiction!
