Let's see, there's two or three breeds from the British isles, several more from other Eastern European countries, There are at lest two breeds from the Mediterranean and then the Oriental Roller from Asia. Take your pick, they came from somewhere!

i have seen, with my own eyes crested rollers rolling with g-force. a blue mix tail badge cock, a little cheq bald crest hen. flown by kenny waterhouse in w.brom england. i aint no fool, that bird had hard speed wrapped up tight, a little ball every roll. 4 rolls a minute, 20ft, didnt see any wing or flaps sticking out ever! full circle."what a roller".

I grew up in the 40s 50s and 60s in southern calif. I remember seeing crested rollers, along with the groused and muffed and the web toes birds. I Don't remember seeing any crested birds at Bill Pensoms but there could have been some just can't remember. Angle fire lofts in canada has a whole family of crested rollers, which were breed down from pensoms. More power to him if thats what he wants. I think way way back before there were pigeon bands, and probably in England men bread there birds so that they could be recognised. Back then if you lost a bird and someone strayed it in you better have every little detail of the bird memorized or wrote down or you wouldn't get it back. Some bread for groused legs. Some put creast on them. Some bread for color, so they could be recognized. If you wanted you could breed up a family of crested commies if you want. I'm sure a crested roller can roll with the best of them. Just my opinion. Jim Bowen
