I think you should go to your local zoo and (pair) put it in a cage with an owl or redtail hawk. You will have the same result in performance. Oh yea, your not into letting them fly and perform.
I could have just skipped this color stuff like I did with the yellow crap but, Oh well, someone had to say it.
By the way Welcome, hope you learn something in here beside posting color birds and show and tell.
Now a fantail would be a great breed to develop feather color in but Birmingham rollers are meant to see up in the air.
Maybe I should have asked, Is your Opel a roller or some other breed? Bill C

welcome chris, i think that you should mate it to all the cocks that you have, so when the pair gets a color that you like, keep that pair together.

I like the look of opal on checked birds the best if you put it on a blue check or red check some real good lookers will hatch out. I have opals that spin for 40+ feet with great control and kit very well to. I will be flying some in my kits the next Fall Fly. So bred some opals for performance as well. you might as well have some pretty spinners to.

Hey Chris, I am not by any means mad or anything at you. I was just wondering if your bird is an opal bar? Because if it was you could breed it with a red bar or blue bar and then would probably produce one of each! :)

You are right Geo, I apologize Chris for being rude.
How ever in the past people bred the rollers for duel purpose and ruined those birds in the 70s and 80s. History repeats itself if we forget history.

I should have just said to myself, another one bites the dust! See there I go again.

I do not regret having stood up for performance in rollers, however I am sorry for being rude to Chris, where as I would not have been rude like that in person and I stand corrected.

These birds are for flying in the sky, that is what they do best, it is my oppinion of course and I am not twisting anyones arm, but many do not know that they are making culls or about to make their birds a discrace to the performing birmingham roller.

I will try and restrain myself in the future since it is not necessary for me to make it a big issue, since it has been discussed several times before.
I just can't seem to think outside the box on, so blantenly color breeding which has nothing in the world to do with a true roller. A bird that spins so fast it hardly loses altitude as it decends or a dishrag tumbler which has a nice feather color or pattern to it. Bill C

You right Bill try to restrain yourself in the future is best I was going to say something myself but I stop myself and said I can't help you there ..believe me I know how you feel..but if we talk like what we really feel like we want to... some people might just close their mind and never learn what you trying to tell them..not be as open minded ..it takes a man to apologize .and that was kool on your part..peace out..

Chris Walk.."Dominant Opal..one of the parents is Dominant Opal..Bred to any other color will produce some Dominant Opals and some other colors...high percentage of Homozygous Dominant Opal cocks will either die hatching or shortly thereafter...DO is responsible for so-called Laced birds and almost exclusively present in What Bar Pigeons." Hope this helps you in your project.

Welcome to the board Chris. One thing to keep in mind here. This is a predominately performance roller site.
Not that there are not a few here who do breed for both. I`m with the "to each their own" theory.
Many are very serious and the color posts bring out very strong emotion.
Post about health, general breeding questions, feed, housing, lofts, kitboxs etc...
Just try to avoid the color topics if you dont want this type of reaction on this board.
Good luck to you and your birds Chris. Look forward to seeing more from you...
