what do you do after you pluck their feathers? do you let them take a look around their new home?

WELL whenever i get new birds i always pluck there feathers..it has always work..i let them go roam outside when there feathers are not fully grown yet..to get them use to teh surroundings.. but this time i pluck 6 birds that i just got and now there feathers are grown back and i let them to see them fly and i lost a grizzle last week and now a rec red hen today..i think she is still in the neighborhood but i guess shes kinda lost. she does have a mate also..he find his way home ok when he flown the first time like 3 days ago..but when she took off today it looked like she know were she was going and the grizzle that i lost last week.. well i hope she comes back.. i know im not going to see the grizzle no more..you guys got any idea why???

That is weird because once a bird comes back he is stuck..a stucky we use to call it..unless these birds got some homer instinct in them that they book home..and you did you notice if there was any BOP around..

No there wasn;t any bops around .i was outside the whole time that my pigeons where out flying. but i gave up and close the doors when the red red hen didn't come back..i know its kinda strange.
PR_ROLLERS, i think LONGROLLER,has the same strain i have(Don Pennys) and he says that they have excellent homing abilitys..he say once a Don Penny bird flew 30miles from a lawn show back home..

THISROLL:
Instead of plucking the flight feathers from your new birds ( which is painful to them, could cause infection and keeps them out of action for a long time, )you might want to consider just tying a piece of string around the last few flight feathers on ONE WING ONLY.
They will still be able to fly a little bit and you can break them by just removing the string after 10 days or so. ( Breaking no more than 1 or 2 at a time works best.)
Hope this helps you.

Maybe the birds hate you! Plucking their feathers hurt them. I also believe that rollers have poor homing abilities so those are probably some reasons.

or you could do what I do is keep them in a wire cage and train them to your kit make sure they know how to get into your trap or how ever you bring them in and when you call them in if you do that make sure they are right there in the wire cage watching the whole process and make sure they are hungry as can be I hope this is some help to you
