I swear some of the guys on here are just plain ignorant. Do you guys remember when you first started in birds, you wanted to know everythin and anything and these newbies are just alike. SO PLEASE lets just cut them a break and let them ask what ever it is they need to know. You know some of us were lucky and had a mentor (just like I did) and had it easy but some have to figure things on their own. So once more be patient and try to help the new guys because they might be the future of this hobby... JMO

I'm with you on that Knox,we have to cut them some slack beside if you work with them they will learn to trust that you are helping them and then see what you trying to tell them beside talking down on them or what ever..but chasing them away is not the answer.I remember when I started with show birds and then went on to performing breed only.. ---------- Ralph

I had nobody to show me the ropes. Two of my siblings & I learned through trial & error, mostly with commies. I hope that the newbies on this site use the wisdom of those who have been at this for a very long time. It is an invaluable resource to any novice. Please ask pertinent questions and let some of these guys mentor you. Keep your disrespecting comments to yourself and learn.

They sure do, but in respectfull way. I mean I'm not a fan of colour nor do I breed for it, but again that has nothing to do with anybody but me and I keep it to myself. If I can help in any way I sure will and I will RESPECT you as long as you respect me. That is the way I do things but again thats just me. BUT Scott you are 100% right there needs to be some direction ... Norm PS SCOTT whenever you have some time and want to talk rollers give me a holler at 865-622-0333 ... Norm ---------- N/A Loft

I have had some of the best to mentor me and I still have the best to help me whn i need help but i will agree the more you help some one the better off you fell and you will get to see your stock out there flying under some one elses controll and see how they do it and maybe make a few tweaks with your regimine and get your birds to fly in perfect unison and the newer people in this hobby or sport are a little bolder and must watch what they say cause some time they do offend with out even knowing it but also as the older and more wise generation must learn to not take things to personaly so they can live life to the fullest and so they will be better off but if they do do a full on combat then you can take it how ever you want but just trying to help a little bit cause my first mentor left and moved and i called him up a little while ago and asked why he moved he said because he did not like his neignbours and also it was parshily because of pestering people andhe took it to personaly now i have Kenny Billings just to name one mentor among other but take the positave things to heart not the bad and crule words because thats all they are is words

Norm... you made the statement "I swear some of the guys on here are just plain ignorant"
Scott said "they need some solid guidence here"
Iagree with need to help the new commers out to the best of our ability but........ I don't think this has anything to do with patience... and cutting them some slack, as it was put. When their are people that deliberately go against policy, are disrespectful, argumentive and refuse to go along with set policies and standards,we as a group need to put our foot down and "Stop" this immediently. ----- Fly High and Roll On

I've had pigeons for 40 years, rollers from the beginning, then tipplers, now rollers for the last 20 years. I'm still learning. Newbies ask away, thats the only way to learn. Yours in the Hobby Don Lunau

Paul I'm on both sides of the argument. But what I have seen is just plainly discusting (from both sides). Some of the new people on here have no respect for anyone, and some of the older guys are just not in the mood or angry because newbie asked a plain question that seems simple to us that been raising birds for a long time. But to them its rocket science. Take me for example, I'm 23 have been raising rollers for the past 7 years, but have been around birds my whole life. Some things are easy for me because I'm a third generation of a pigeon NUT but some are just inposible to figure out without some help... Norm ---------- N/A Loft

Norm, I'm with you on this one. The Army taught me that the only dumb question is the one that is not asked! I am more than happy to answer any question that someone new to the hobby may have. There are some contributors on here that seem to have a burr under their saddle when it comes to color. I think one can learn a lot about genetics from color. Some will say that color genetics has nothing to do with the roll and I agree but like the old commercial "Parts is Parts" and genetics is genetics. I have studied color genetics for the past few years and find it fascinating. It helps me to understand the other factors in genetics and thereby improve my family of birds. Keep em Spinning. Joe and Ralph you guys are allright ... Lol Ralph I'm a new born, but life has made me a lot older than my numbers show.I was born and raised in Bosnia and have gone through a war. At the age of 6 I was a POW and spent 15 months in a concentration camp starved to death, beaten, burned, cut with a razor and scared. The pigeons are my passion and relaxation and like I said they are in my blood. But yeah man life had thrown me a curve ball and I had to grow up FAST... Norm ---------- N/A Loft

Norm, That would make anyone grow up real fast, Glad you made it through the times,
Some people just need to be a little more patient with members and to there questions, To you they may mean nothing, but to a newbie they are there weight in gold. Enjoy the sport. ----------

Scott, I am sure you would agree that size, type, feather quality and the ro factor all contribute to a birds propensity to roll. Particularly over several generations. By understanding the many factors of genetics that influence our bloodline's development we can try to improve the performance. As you said to a fellow in the hobby the other day, "study yor birds, even the culls". Just my opinion, know you don't agree. ---------- Keep em Spinning Joe

I`ve been in and out of a few roller sites and lists , the last few years. Learning about rollers is my only goal for being here.. It is a shame when a newbie asks a question and gets slammed for it. Newbies are the future of the sport/hobby, and the breed.

Most of the time when the Newbie gets slamed. Its because of inapproprate behavior, lack of forum etiquett and a very bad additude. I think once we can get everyone on the same page with the policies, how this site works and what is expected of them, things will flow much better.. .....I hope....lol ---------- Fly High and Roll On

guys lets think of it this way. If some of us didnt have anybody to help with understanding this breed that where would we be today. Please guys lets have some respect for one another no matter if you'r 16 or 60. We all come on this site and that is to exchange information and help one another. IF YOU consider that you know everything there is to know than you dont belong on here. Just my tow cents....

Thanks Norm_Knox I get a bit nervous about asking questions . Either they say stupid stuff or act like were stupid . Things have changed a bunch since I was a kid raising birds so when we ask we just dont no . If your not trying to help just dont write nothing , by joking , and we that dont know better will use that info . So in return we either ruin the birds we do have or just give up . Please just help , we need your help thats all THANKS Norm_Knox STUDENT 2 THE GAME
